Montezuma was born in the year of 1466. He lived in the city of Tenochtitlán, within which is now Mexico City. His parents were Axayacatl, and Xochicueyetl. He was also known as Moctezuma II and Moteucçoma.

In 1481 his Uncle Ahuitzotl took his Father’s place as Aztec Emperor. Unfortunately he died in 1486 so his brother took over. Montezuma served as captain alongside Emperor Ahuitzotl when they launched many Military campaigns.

In 1502 Montezuma took Ahuitzotls place as Emperor. He then became the ninth Aztec Emperor. He served as emperor in what is now in present day Honduras and Nicaragua.

In 1505 he wanted to further expand the Aztec empire. He engaged in many military campaigns that would that would help increase the empire. Montezuma later moved the Mixtec and Zapotec in to be under his control.

In 1509 Montezuma's daughter isabel was born. She was a real heir of Montezuma. Her mother was also Montezuma’s principal wife, Teotlalco. She later married her Uncle who would later become Ruler.

In the 1510’s Montezuma became a very disliked person. He began ordering that a large number of victims be captured for religious sacrifices. He later started to face serious rebellions through his territories.

In 1517 new people arrived and fooled Montezuma. He believed that they were related to the gods in some way. The Spaniards were able to get into the empire without having to fight off the Aztecs great army.

In 1519 Hernán Cortes, a Spanish Conquistador brought his men to the Aztec empire. Since Montezuma believed that the Spaniards were related to the gods he treated them well. He bought them expensive gifts.

From that time Montezuma arranged for their comfortable stay in his palace in Tenochtitlán. They stayed as his guests for many months. Although Montezuma had to go back to ruling the empire.

By April 1520 when Montezuma went back to ruling the empire the Spaniards had something else in mind. The Spaniards took Montezuma hostage. Soon after Montezuma was killed by Hernán Cortes.
