In the town of Lawrence, a strong uphold of antislavery settlers. The attackers destroyed the town. John Brown mentioned he thought God chose him to end slavery. Newspaper reporters referred to the "bleeding Kansas" act as the Civil War in Kansas.

John Brown led a group of people to, hopefully, arm enslaved African Americans. His target was the arsenal. This is a storage site for weapons. People saw Brown as a martyr which is a person who dies for a great cause.

Douglas was popular and Lincoln was unknown. Lincoln had challenged Douglas to many debates. The main topic was slavery. Douglas was accusing Lincoln of things that may or may not have happened. Douglas ended up winning the election. To me this makes sense because he was known more.

The southern democrats vowed John C. Breckinridge. Republicans nominated Abraham Lincoln, they said slavery will be left undisturbed where it was present. Lincoln won and had most of the electorial votes. The north outvoted the south.

Lincoln took office and the very next day the commander of Fort Sumter sent a message. He was saying he wanted to surrender because they were low on supplies. Lincoln sent people to surrender being unarmed. He didn't want his troops to fire unless they fire first. Jefferson Davis asked his troops to fire before they even arrived.
