She was born in Coconut Grove, Florida to a family of dancers.

At the age of 3, Mia started dancing. Her father and her sister were her first dance teachers. Father taught her jazz, tap and ballet, whereas her sister taught her contemporary dance.

At age 11, Mia began choreographing with her father at the Miami Dance Center. She was never able to dance professionally because of her body type. So she set out to create her own kind of dance.

Mia decided to start her own dance company called RAW (Reality at Work) so that she could implement her style of dance into the lives of others.

Madonna contacted Mia to choreograph for her Drowned World Tour.

Celine Dion asked Mia to be the choreographer for her A New Day show in Las Vegas.
