Dr. Montessori was given the responsibility for caring for a group of children in the slum district of San Lorenzo, Rome. Here, she worked with some of the area's most disadvantaged children. -
On January 6th 1907 she opened up the Casa Dei Bambini, English for "Children's House", for the purpose of making a quality educational environment for the disadvantaged children of San Lorenzo. -

The Children's House in Milan was the third established Casa dei Bambini worldwide. -
Dr. Montessori published her first book, Il Metodo della Pedagogia Scientifica applicato all’educazione infantile nelle Case dei Bambini. Within 3 years it had been translated into 10 languages. Its first 5,000 copies in English, succinctly titled The Montessori Method, sold out in 4 days. -
Montessori schools could be found throughout Western Europe and were being established around the world.
