Manitoba Resistence Timeline

  • Rupert's Land is purchased by Canada

    Purchased Rupert's Land from the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) for $1.5 million
  • Armed Metis stop surveyors

    Sent a guy named Riel to tell the surveyors to leave Red River immediatly.
  • Thomas Scott is killed

    Got shot by a firing squad after threating Riel that he would kill him.
  • Creation of the Manitoba Act

    -Manitoba would have it's provincial government
    -Both French and English would be used in the governments and courts
  • A group of Metis travel to the States to bring Riel back to Canada

    Riel went back to Canada because the government went bad and the Metis were unhappy.
  • The Metis defeat police at Duck Lake

    Cree joined the resistence.They killed nine people and captured a police post.
  • Metis and Cree people surrender

    The resistence was over.A total of 53 people died and 118 were injured.
