Chinese myths told that the Goddess Guan Yin pitied starving humans and squeezed milk from her breasts, which flowed into the previously empty ears of the rice plants to become rice grains. When she pressed harder, blood flowed into her milk and this was the cause of why humans were provided with white and red varieties of rice.
