  • Jamestown Founded

    Jamestown Founded
    First permanant English settlement colony established in America. It was established in Virginia by the Virginia Company of London.
  • Mayflower Lands in Massachusets

    Mayflower Lands in Massachusets
    The Mayflower, sailing from Plymouth, England, lands in Massachusets. The Pilgrims settle and create one of the first settlements.
  • King Philip's War

    King Philip's War
    War fought between Native Americans against Colonists and their Native American allies. Since the colonists fought this war without the help of the English government, it helped give them a sense of identity, furthering their identity as American.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    America's part of the Seven Year's War. British and French colonies had the help of their home countries as well as Native American allies. They fought against Native American tribes
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Britain imposed the stamp act on English Colonies in America that increased their taxes, as well as making sure paper products must be from England, creating more of a cost for the colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Because of the severe taxes imposed by the British, the sons of liberty protested by dumping and destroying shipments of tea from Britain. "No taxation without representation"
  • American Revolution

    American Revolution
    Lasted until 1783. During this time the Revolutionary War was fought, and the Declaration of Independence was created and signed on July 4, 1776.
  • Constitution is Ratified

    Constitution is Ratified
    The United States Constitution is ratified.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    828,000 square miles purchased from Napoleon Bonaparte. This doubled the size of the United States.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    Fought by the United States and Britain. Fought because of trade restrictions and impressment of Americans into the British Navy (impressment means forced entry into the military). There was no clear winner, but the war helped increase independence for the United States.
  • The Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri Compromise
    Admitted Maine and Missouri into the United States. Mine was admitted as a free slave and Missouri as a slave state. This created the balance between free and slave states in the United States.
  • Mexican-American War

    Mexican-American War
    Conflict between the United States and the Centralist Republic of Mexico. The war began after Texas was admitted, as Mexico felt it was still their territory.
  • The Civil War

    The Civil War
    Lasted until 1865. Fought between the Union and Confederacy (North and South), the main reason being slavery. This was one of the deadliest wars in U.S History.
