    Spindletop Oil Discovery
    Ever since the wildcatters discovered the “black gold”, the Texas oil industry has changed tremendously. Spindletop is what changed everything. Our oil products almost increased by 50%. People then started discovering oil on university grounds. These universities became very wealthy. Which made them gain in the amount of student and teachers they have. Oil was found on the campus of University of Austin Texas and Texas A&M University. Afterwards it became oil over spouse.
  • Galveston Hurricane of 1900

    Galveston Hurricane of 1900
    In 1900's there was a unexpected hurricane that ripped through the city of Galveston. Many people could have been warned, but were not. About 6,000 to 8,000 people lost thier lives in this castrophic event.The hurricane was supposed to hit the east coast but deciced it wanted to hit another state for once. There was millions of dollars damge to homes and businesses. In order not to relive that moment again, the city built a 6 mile long seawall to elavate the city.

    Sinking of the Lusitania
    Germany had plans to attack their enemy by sinking the Lusitania. It had plenty of weapons, but the British were not expecting them. More than 1,000 people lost thier lifes including 128 americans. This led to a "fight" aganist Britain and the United States, so the U.S.A declared war aganist Germany. The Lusitania was in a war zone so anyone could attack.

    During the 1920's the United States went dry. They banned all alcohol. It was illegal to have any alcohol in the U.S. Because of the temperance movement, then many Americans were willing to drink the alcohol illegally which was called "bootlegging". In March 1933 President Franklin D. Roosevlet signed a act that allowed manufacturing and selling of low-alcohol beer and wines.

    19th Admenment
    The 19th admenment granted the right for women to vote. It let the women by "free". We didn't have to go off of what the men wanted because we were finally allowed to vote. Oveta Culp Hobby worked for women's rights and for equal rights of all people. Femele citizens did not share all the rights as men, including the right to vote. Some thought it was unfair becuase the men had all the descisions in their hands.

    Black Tuesday is where it all started. Stocks were no longer worth the money so people had to pay. People invested alot in stocks. They had to keep on borrowing money from the bank. Franklin D. Roosevelt case the banks for three days. People were still in need of money. Whenver people tried to go get thier extra money from the bank, the bank had lost it all.The stock market is a major cause of the Great Depression.

    Great Depression
    A big cause of the Great Depression is the Stock market crash of 1929. It lasted until 1939. This was a economic boom. After the next 3 years stock prices in the United States continues to fall lower and lower. Oil production dropped to 15 cents per barrel. The Great Deprssion started in the U.S, but afterwhile started speading into other countries. By the time the Great Depression was over the United States knew how to deal with it while the other countries were struggling to get through it.

    Bombing of Pearl Harbor
    Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. More than 3,000 peope died or got hurt during this event. President Roosevelt wanted all Japanese Americans to evacuate the West coast. Hideki Tojo was the prime minister that ordered the attack on Pearl Harbor. The attack is what finally brought the United States into World War 2. Japanese struck in a specific so that they could do as much damage as quickly as possible.
