    Vauban was a famous architect, specialist in "star forts". 12 of his fortification are included in the UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites.

    Smith's famous "of the Wealth of Nations" is a book of paramount importance in economics. All students of ecomomics are introduced to the subject with Smith's work.
    It is broad in spectrum, as it resumes all of Smith's work, but the fundamental topics are: division of labour, free markets and productivity.
    The book is a commendation of mercantilism.

    The two slates on which the Declaration is inscribed reference those on which Moses received the 10 commandments form God.
    The Declaration is put under the watchful eye of God, and on it are seated the allegorical figures of France and Fama.

    The picture is composed of three images: a Greek and his supposed skull, a Black man and his supposed skull, and an ape and his supposed skull.
    The obvious implication her eis that Blacks are not as developed as Whites - that they are in between the Geeek and the ape in terms of cerebral development.

    W. Owen "Dulce et Decorum est"
    Dulce et Decorum est is the title of Wilfried Owen's famous WW1 poem.
    The title comes from Horace's "Dulce et Decorum est, Pro patria mori", which means "it is sweet and fitting to die for one's country". The title is ironic - the poem was written as a critique of the war, and of the population being lied to (through newspapers).
    The poem describes a soldier dying in a gas attcak.

    Battleship Potemkin is a russian silent movie, directed by the famous russian film director, Sergei Eisenstein.
    Releaed in 1925, it is a piece of propaganda (sometimes dubbed "the most influential propaganda film of all time"), which depicts the crew of the Potemkin mutinying againt their Tsarist officers.
