    Statute of Westminster
    On December 11, 1931, Canada was granted their full independance. Lord Balfour suggested that they take control in 1926. Then in 1929, two month negotiations were held in London and it was decided that Canada were to become independent. In 1930, issues were revisited and Canada had a choice if it wanted to be independent or not. They chose to become independent which means they now have the ability to pass their own laws and take action on what they want to without British consent.
  • Creation of National Bank

    Creation of National Bank
    On July 3rd, 1934, the Bank of Canada was created to promote the economic and financial welfare of Canada. The head office is located in Montreal, Quebec. Prime Minister R.B Bennett set up a Royal Commission to decide if Canada should have central bank. The decision passed for having a central bank and Canada finally had its own source to deal with the countries money and paper work instead of Britain having control like in past years.
  • Creation of CBC

    Creation of CBC
    On November 2nd, 1936, the CBC was approved by the Canadian government to become the national broadcaster. It was created by Alan Plaunt and Graham Spry to give Canada there own radio and promotion opportunities. The American's were taking over other radio stations so they created this to show that Canada has great talent and potential. They created the first station in Ottawa and got different companies to air their promotions and contacted the people who license radios to approve of them.
  • Canada declares war

    Canada declares war
    On September 10 1939, Canada declared war on Germany because they were invading other countries and trying to conquer the world. They attacked Poland and destroyed all there defenses. They also torpedoed the Athenia heading to Canada with many Canadians on board. This angered Canada into consider joining the war. On September 7th, Parliament had a meeting over the attack. On September 9th, it was decided they would join the war. On September 10th, King George VI announced Canada declared war.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    On June 6th, 1944, Canadian soldiers attacked Juno Beach alone, in attempt to help take back parts of France. They had there own job to take care of. In total there were 150,000 allies and 14,000 were Canadian. The Royal Canadian Navy sent out 110 ships and 10,000 sailors to help prepare bombings. Canada suffered 1074 casualties and 359 deaths.

    Liberation of Netherlands

    From September of 1944 to April of 1945, Canada took place in many battles to liberate the Netherlands. In Antwerp, Canada was in charge of taking out all the German forces there. In the Battle of the Scheldt, nearly 13,000 Canadians were killed trying to clear the banks of the Scheldt River. They provided food and relief to towns that were attacked and allies. They fought a lot in the Netherlands that now there are celebrations between the two countries to show respect for Canada's efforts.
