The boys crash land on the island

The boys crash land on an island, standing them. The main characters, Ralph and Piggy, meet on the beach. They find the other boys, who elect Ralph leader

Piggy

Piggy's glasses are used to start a fire, it is effectively proclaimed sacred and someone is assigned to tend it at all times

The beast

The concept of the beast is brought up, and the boys are all scared by it

The hunt

Work begins on making huts, and a group of hunters goes out on a hunt for the beast. A pig is killed, but the fire goes out

Plane fight above the island

A dogfight occurs above the island. A plane gets shot down and the dead pilot parachutes down onto the island, in a way becoming the beast incarnate. After this, Jack begins using the beast and the "protection" he gives the boys from the beast as a leverage for control.

Jack quickly realizes that his bid for power cannot get far, so he breaks off with his hunt. slowly, more boys continue to flock to him.

The lord of the flies

Jack's band of hunter's slowly gains more followers, and holds a ritual slaughter of a sow. they decapitate the sow and put it's head on a stick. Simon has a vision, where the sow, referring to itself as the lord of the flies, tells Simon that he will never escape him because he exists in everyone.

After his dream of The lord of the flies, Simon goes onto the mountain and finds out that what they thought was the beast was in fact just a downed pilot. He goes down to tell the other boys, but as he emerges from the shadows, the boys think that he is the beast and kill him

Jack gains power

The next day, Piggy and Ralph discuss what had happened. suddenly, Jack's followers attack them and take Piggy's glasses. Ralph, Piggy and a few other boy's travel to Jack's stronghold to try to make him see reason, but he attacks them, while they are escaping, a boy rolls a boulder down a hill, killing Piggy.

The naval officer

Jack and his followers continue to hunt Ralph, but Ralph is able to hide in the forest. Jack's followers light the forest on fire in an attempt to smoke Ralph out. Ralph flees onto the beach knowing he cannot escape for long. he passes out, and regains consciousness seeing a the boy's running out of the woods, and a naval officer standing over him. The officer asks Ralph what was going on, and Ralph begins to cry, as do the other boys.
