    The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney in 1793. The cotton was invented for the sole purpose of picking the seeds out of the cotton, making it efficient. This however created a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing was that it was produced in large amounts making people buy more, but it also required the labor of slaves.

  • Tariff of 1828 & Nullification Crisis

    The Tariff of 1828 was to raise the imports of the British, causing the southerners to get angry because it benefited the northerners more. Calhoun reached the conclusion that federal government only existed at the will of the states coming up with the less drastic solution - the doctrine of Nullification.

    Underground Railroad

    The underground railroad helped slaves escape. People that helped escape was Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas: hiding slaves in his home along with the Quakers. Quakers where the first people who known to start helping the slaves slaves. Fredrick helped 1,500 slaves escape to the north. John Brown was the conductor of the train.

  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    He was the one that led the successful rebellion the slaves. He was born in a plantation in Virginia. He there was instructed to read and write . He was sold of three times and on the last owner was the Travis family, where he became a great preacher to the slaves. He though tit was the time to rise. He enlisted 4 men to execute his plan he killed the Travis family and enlisted 75 more slaves to help him murdering another 51 white people.

    Harriet Beecher Stowe's was the author of this book. The was written as a major influence on the was of the American Revolution. It established Stowe's reputation as a women of letter.     It was was one of the first sites of civil war. It had alot of batterles being fought in that place. one of the first ones they had was South Carolina's secession, initianting a stand off with the state's militia.
