Life of a Person- 3 of Erickson's stages

By varahm
  • Trust vs. Mistrusted

Adaline has been in this world for six months. She is the most beautiful baby any parent could ask for. Throughout the first three months of her life, her mother was constantly caring for her, but now these past few months, Adaline's mother has not been dedicating enough time to her & is inconsistent. In Erikson's first stage of trust vs. mistrust, the crisis is between whether or not Adaline can rely on her mother or not. The emotional and social bond is not very strong at this time.
  • Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt

Adaline is now a litttle over two years old. She is learning to be independent, but her mother feels the need to help her with everything. Becuase she won't let Adaline assert herself, Adaline does not have the confidence to walk up the stairs on her own. In Erickson's second stage of autonomy vs. shame and guilt, the crisis is between having confidence and lacking self-esteem.
  • Initiative vs. Guilt

Adaline is now five years old. Her mother is noticing more behaviors in her daughter and that her daughter is asking questions that "seem inappropriate". It seems as if she is constantly punishing Adaline. In Erickson's third stage, the crisis for Adaline is between the ability to feel secure in making decisions vs. feeling a sense of guilt.
