  • Henry Chapman, her brother, was born

    He was eight years older than Vittwia. He was a frail and sickly child.

  • Vittwia St. Clair Chapman Mickelson was born

    Born in Kentucky (has 12 siblings)

  • Moved to Burlington, Iowa

    Vittwia was four years old.

  • Moved back to Kentucky

    They moved in the early 50's.

  • Started across the plains for Oregon

    She, her brother Daniel and her brother Henry started across the plains for Oregon.

  • The family moved back to Iowa

    Just before the Civil War.

  • Vittwia volunteered as a nurse

    Fort Sumter was fired on.

  • She and Henry came to Southern Oregon.

  • Vittwia married Mr Mickelson

    He was an old-time Nevada miner, but he was sick and needed careful nursing. That was main reason why she married him.

  • Mr Mickelson dies

    Vittwia traveld all over California with him for his health but he died because he was sick.

  • Vittwia bought her place in Ashland

    Built her home.
