    When the war ended America got a bunch of new states, and the problem was weather they would be free, or slave states.
  • 2. Fugitive Slave Act - 1850

    This was passed as a part of the compromise of 1850, and this made sure that federal office arrest runaway slaves or they would have to pay a fine.
  • 3. Uncle Tom's Cabin Was Released

    This showed people how slaverly was really like, and made things real in the eyes of northerners
  • Bleeding Kansas shocked Northerners

    Kansas and Nebraska act was passed and tey could decide weather they wanted to be free or a slave state, and in Kansas there were pro and anti slaverly which caused many fights.
  • Charles Sumner is Attacked by Preston on the Floor of the Senate

    Pro-slavery Congressman Preston Brooks attacked Charles Sumner with a cane after Sumner had given a speech attacking the pro-slavery forces for the violence occurring in Kansas.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    The decision that a slave living in a free state with his owner is still a slave becuase its property and you can bring your property anywhere.
  • John Brown Raided Harper's Ferry

    Took 17 men and invaded Harper's Ferry in Virginia his goal was to bring slavery up with captured weapons.
