Hitler, in violation in of the Treaty of Versailles, announced that he would be rearming the German Army. However, he assured in his speech that this was for defense purposes. the details of his plans were to rebuild the German air force, reinstate the draft, and rearm his country. -
Hitler's Second Saturday Surprise
Soldiers of the German army entered into the Rhineland as planes were above. The Rhineland is a thirty-one mile wide piece of land between Belgium, France, and Germany that was set as neutral by the Treaty of Versailles. No other countries tried to interfere with the German army. -
Hitler's Nazis ally with Mussolini's Italy
In 1936, Hitler and Benito Mussolini announced that they would become allies. This was known as the Rome-Berlin Axis. Italy then became one of the axis powers in World War Two after this treaty was signed. -
The Nazis Invade Austria
German soldiers entered Austrian territory. This was actually voted on by Austrain citizens and they voted for 99.7% approval. Winston Churchill predicts that Czechoslovakia will be the next country to be invaded -
Sudetenland Goes to the Germans
Hitler was demanding that an area in Czechoslavakia must belong to them. The prime minister of Britain, Neville Chamberlain, French prime minister Edouard Daladier, Benito Mussolini, and Adolf Hitler met in Munich to search for a compromise. However, the other leaders appeased Hitler and gave him Sudetenland and Hitler promised this was his last demand over territory. This made the poeple of Czechoslavakia very angry. -
The Beginning of the Attack on the Polish
Nazi officers took a group of prisoners to a town on the border of Poland named Gleiwitz, dressed them as soldiers in the Polish army and killed them all. The next day, the German army and officers of the SS entered Poland. they declared this as retaliation on the Polish's attack on Gleiwitz. -
The Town of Piotrkow is Bombed
The Polish town of Piotrkow is bombed by the Nazis. These bombings killed many people. The bombs destroyed the city hall, the police station, the bank, the post office, and the water system of the city. -
German Troops Enter Piotrkow
German troops enter the city of Piotrkow. They are able to control the entire city after only two hours of fighting in the streets. Later that day, the Nazis searched for Jewish people in the desolated city. They were able to find twenty and they shot and killed them. -
Poland Surrenders to Nazis
The Nazis fully occupied the country of Poland in the parts of the central and south of the country. Hitler makes them a part of the Nazi Empire. Hitler then names the rest of the country "the General Government of Poland". -
The Jews are Ordered to Wear the Yellow Star and a Curfew
The Nazis had ordered that Jews must wear a yellow star. This was so people could identify them as Jewish. They also had a curfew that were to keep them out of public from 9 PM to 5 AM. Not following one of these rules could result in 10 years in prison. -
The Nazis Invade Denmark and Norway
The Nazis invaded and took over the countries of Denmark and Norway. This was part of their plan to control more of Western Europe. They conquered the two countries fairly easily. -
The Nazis Invade France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands
The Nazis were beginning to gain a lot of power and a lot of territory. They were eventually able to conquer all of these countries at different times. The Nazi Empire was growing. -
Winston Churchill Becomes Prime Minister
The man who was wary of Adolf Hitler the entrie time was now the prime minister of Britain. He announced that he would go to war with the Nazis. He vows to be victorius in this war against the Nazi Empire and Adolf Hitler. -
The Invasion Of Russia
Hitler called for the Nazi forces to enter Russia and called for the destruction of them. The army forces were ordered to murder anybody who could be an enemy of the state. The Nazis divided their conquest into four different sections and divided their forces into four groups and assigned one section per group. -
Pearl Harbor Bombings
Japanese planes flew over the naval station at Pearl Harbor and dropped bombs on it. At this time, this was the most devasting attack on American territory. This then brought the Americans into the war that they wanted to stay neutral in. -
United States Declares War on the Japanese
In just one day, the US Congress passed the request for the US Military to go to war with Imperial Japan. This, of course, was after the horrible attacks on Pearl Harbor in Japan. Germnay and Japan were allies. -
Germany Declares War on America
Adolf Hitler declares war on the US after they had declared war on Japan, one of Germany's allies. This then united three powerful nations together for one goal. The United States, Britain, and Russia now all wanted to defeat Germany.
