  • The first cry!

    When a child is born they scream ALOT! But that screaming also signifies that they have the coveted ability to create sound.
  • 3 months old! Yes I can hear you mom!

    can respond vocally to whoever engages them!
  • 1 year old! First word spoken!

    between 10 months to one year a child can speak their first word that made sense
  • 18 months! Toddler sentences

    Around 18 months children began to form short sentences, keep inmind that each toddler lexicon is unique and developing so each sentence wont be garmmatically perfect.
  • 2yrs old! Vocabulary gets bigger!

    As each year passes, children learn more and more words, during this time a toddlers vocabulary can increase up to 300 words.
  • 3 years old! Complete sentences

    At 3 years old, children can form adult-like sentences surprisingly well.
  • 4-5 year olds! Let converse!

    4 and 5 year olds learn to adjust style of talking depending on who they are talking to.

    At 5 yrs old, memory increases and quite a large vocabulary is formed. Also sentence structure is at about 90% and they can speak in past and future tense. Also the use of helping words such as "would, should, must and might are used more frequently.
  • 6 years old! Independent ME!

    At 6, children learn to communicate through reading and writing, as their vocabulary increases, so does their cognitive awareness. Because these are school-age children they began to form their own identity outside of the family dynamic.
  • Adolescence! I can tell stories all day!

    Adolescence! I can tell stories all day!
    As early as 8 years old language stabilizes and you already know most of your vocabulary, after this point it's strictly what you put into it through reading and writing.
    Independence grows and the telling of narratives becomes more descriptive and specific.
