The Thirteen Colonies were British North American colonies in which is now the eastern seaboard of the United States. Some people thought they would make a lot of money in new goods, such as tobacco. Others left to find freedom of religion or just to make a new start. The first colony was Virginia. It was started in 1607 at Jamestown. The last colony of the thirteen to be started was Georgia in 1732. -

The United States Declaration of Independence is the pronouncement adopted on July 4, 1776. The declaration explained why the Thirteen Colonies at war with the Kingdom of Great Britain regarded themselves as thirteen independent sovereign states, no longer under british rule. -

Westward expansion, the 19th-century movement of settlers into the American West, began with the Louisiana Purchase and was fueled by the Gold Rush, the Oregon Trail and a belief in "manifest destiny."In 1700 there were around 250,000 colonists living in the American colonies. By 1775, this number had grown to 2.5 million. Many people wanted new land to farm and hunt. -

The Constitution is the highest form of law in the country. The Constitution creates the branches of government and gives them the power to govern. However, it also protects the citizens of the United States and guarantees their basic rights.The Articles of Constitution had issues. The main issue was that the government had no money or way to get money under the Articles. Debts to foreign countries weren't being paid. -

The Bill of Rights are the first 10 amendments to the United States Constitution. The idea behind the Bill of Rights was to insure certain freedoms and rights to the citizens of America. It put limits on what the government could do and control. Freedoms protected include freedom of religion, speech, assembly, the right to bear arms, unreasonable search and seizure of your home, the right to a speedy trial, and more. -

The American Civil War was fought between the southern states and the northern states. The southern states didn't want the North telling them what to do or making laws they didn't want. Many southern states decided to break away and form their own country called the Confederacy. The North, however, wanted to stay as one united country; and so a war began. The Civil War, and the major events leading up to the war, lasted from 1860 to 1865. -

The Industrial Revolution was a time when the manufacturing of goods moved from small shops and homes to large factories. It also introduced new technologies,new types of transportation, and a different way of life for many. The early part of the Industrial Revolution in the United States took place in the northeast in the New England region. By the end of the 1800s, the United States had become the most industrialized nation in the world.
