Hassen is Raped
In the winter of 1975 after tht big kite running tournement Assef rapes hassan in an ally "Assef knelt behind Hassen.. dropped his underware. He postioned himself behind Hassen.."(Hossein 65). This part of the story is one of the most important in the whole book. Hassen's mind set is changed forever and his realtionship would never be the same with Amir. -
Russians invade Kabul
In 1979 Amirs life will never be the same agian when " Runnisan tanks rolled into the very same streets where me and Hassen played"(Hosseini 29). Amir's life has now changed forever. Amir's way of life is now over. -
USSR Invassion of Afghanistan
In 1979 USSR forces " parchuted into kabul..."(2). -
Baba sells his house as he prepares to move
In this part of the story Baba prepares to move as he sells his house to Rahim Khan , "Baba had just 'sold' his house to Rahim khan"(Hoseein 171). This part of the story is very important. It shows that Baba is accepting Afganistan is done for and his old life is over. -
Baba starts to relize that America isn't what he wants.
In this part of the book while at a grocery store Baba says " What kind of country is this? No one trust anybody!"(Hosseini 107). After leaving Kabul two years later Baba is still struggling to adjust to American life. This part shows that Baba will never really be happey in Afganistan. -
Amir starts going to the Flee market
Amir and baba begin their tradtion of " On saturday Baba woke, up at dawn. As he dressed, I scanned the classified in the local papers and circled Garage sale ads. We mapped our route..."(Hosseini 115). Baba finds a way to make himself happy. Amir also mets someone very important to him here. -
Amir mets his future wife
Amir talks to his first encounter with his future wife, "Me a mojarad, a single young man, and she an unwed young woman"(Hosseini 144). Amir is talking to someone his is going to marry evuntually. He is on his way to getting married. -
Baba dies
Baba sadly " Never woke Up"(Hosseini 172). Baba dies leaving Amir is now on his own. One of the most important people in Amir's life is now gone forever. -
Rahim Khan goes to Find Hassen
In this part of the book Rahim Khan " I went to Hazarajat to find Hassen in 1986"(Hosseini 175). After over ten years of being apart, Hassen is finally coming back into Amir's life. This will evuntally sends Amur back to Afganistan. -
Hassen dies
In this part of the story A taliban member "Shoots him in the back of the head"(Hossein 219). This very sad part of the story changes Amirs life forever. Amir's life long friend is now dead and he can never atone for what he did. -
Amir finishes his first novel and his writting career starts
Amir finishes his first book, "I finished my first novel, a father-son story set in Kabul"(Hossein 157). This is very important as Amir begins his life long dread of being a wrtiiter. It also showed Baba that he was right the whole time. -
USSR leave Afghanistan a broken country
In 1989 the final soviet forces left Afghanistan after peace talks with the U.N. " the last soviet troops left in 1989 .. left behind a country that was devastated by war. -
Sorya relizes she can't have children
Amir and his wife go to the doctor and find out she has "something called unexplained infertility"(Hosseini 160). Amir relizes he can never have his own child. He blames himself for this because ihe thinks it's what he did to Hassen coming back at him. -
Warlords take control of the region
In the summer of 1994 the land was divied among warlords and indivudal fiefdoms. -
Taliban gains support
Mullah Omar gains 12,00 fowllowers in a effort to restore tradtional Islamic vaules in the area. -
Kabul falls to diffrent factions.
Amir learns that " The shorwi were defeated and long gone and Kabul belonged to Massoud, Rabbani and Mujeahedin."(Hosseini 181). Now that Kabul is gone Amir is sad. This lines up with what was also happing in Afganistan at the time. -
Taliban take over the goverment
At the end of this year take control of Afghanistan and impose strict enforcment of Islamic law. -
Amir learns what has happened to Kabul
In this chapter Amir learns that ""If you went from the the Shar-e-Nau section to the Kerteh-Parwan to buy a carpet, you risk getting shot by a sniper or blown up by a rocket"(Hosseini 171). Amir has learned that his country is gone now and that there is no hope for it. -
Sorhab tries to kill himself
Sorhab feels very depresed about going back to an orphange so Amir goes into the bathroom and start "screaming through my clenched teeth"(Hosseini 342). Amirs hope of atoneing for what he died to hassen is almost lost. Sorhab tries to kill himself after what happens after he was abused in Afganistan. -
Attack on World trade center
Al Qaeda took over comercial jets and drove them into the WTC, starting US intervension in the middle east. -

The US invaded Afganistan and drove the Taliban out of the Goverment. -
Sohrab comes around to life in America
At a kite fight in San Franisco "He smiled. It was only a smile, nothing more."(Hosseini 371). Amir is finally able to forgive himself for what he did to Hassen back in 1975. He has given sohrab a better life and can now forgive himself. -

Obama says plan for war in the middle east
Obama deploys 30,000 more troops in Afganistan and have all troops taken out by the end of 2011. -
Obama's new plan
Obama changes plan to have all troops out by end of 2014. -

In 1979, " Russian tanks rolled into the very same streets where me and Hassen and I played"(Hossein 28). Amir childhood has ended and now he starts a new chapter in his life. Shortly after this Baba and Amir flee Afganistan.
