Hassan stands up for Amir against Assef
Amir explaines that "(He) turned and came face to face with Hassan's slingshot. Hassan had pulled the wide elastic band all the way back. In the cup was a rock the size of a walnut. Hassan held the slingshot pointed directly at Assef's face" (42). Hassan is showing bravery when standing up to Assef and doesn't care that he might get hurt. He really cares for Amir and will do anything to stand up for him -
Amir and Hassan win the Kite tournament
Right when Amir cut the last kite "(He) didn't hear the crowd's roar to know. (He) didn't need to hear it either Hassan was screaming and his was wrapped around (Amir's) neck. 'Bravo! Bravo, Amir agha!'" (66). Amir has finally won at something which has never happened before, which is big. He has proven his father wrong and made it seem to him that he's worthy. -
Hassan is raped, and Amir witnesses everything but does nothing
As Amir stood around the Alley corner, "(he) stopped watching, turned away from the alley... (He) realized something else. (He) was weeping. From just around the corner, (he) could hear Assef's quick, rhythmic grunts" (77). Amir is acting like a coward for not being able to help Hassan when he was being raped, because he could have done somerthing about it, but didn't. The fact that he didn't do anythng would take a big toll on their relationship later. -
Amir frames Hassan by placing the money and watch under his mattress
Amir exclaimed that he "went downstairs, crossed the yard, and entered Ali and Hassan's living quarters by the loquat tree. (He) lifted Hassan's matress and planted (his) new watch and a handful of Afghani bills under it" (104). Amir wanted the guilt he felt for not stopping Assef to stop, so he set up Hassan by making it seem lke he stole his birthday presents. He fianlly got Hassan and Ali to leave after Hassan agreed he stole it. -
Hassan and Ali leave Baba's home
Ali made his final descision by saying "'Life here is impossible for us now, Agha sahib. We're leaving.' Ali drew Hassan to him, curled his arm around his son's shoulder" (106). Ali finds out about everything Amir has done, so he makes the descision to leave with Hassan. Amir feels guilty because Baba becomes very upset about this. -

Amir and Baba move to America
Soon after Ali and Hassan left Baba's house, Amir and Baba decide to leave the house as well. In the car, "(Amir's) innards had been roiling since (they'd) left Kabul just after two in the morning. Baba never said so, bhut (Amir) knew he saw his car sickness as another one of his weaknesses" (110). Baba didn't want to live in his house if Ali and Hassan were not there, so he decided to move to America. Amir did not see this coming and did not tink that Baba would go that after becasue of it. -
Amir marries Soraya
Amir and Baba are having a conversation until Ammit finally gets the nerve to ask Baba a favor and says "' I want you to go ask General Taheri for his daughter's hand" (161). General Taheri accepts Baba's offer for Amir to take his daughter's hand in marriage. They both get really happy and Amir says that he does not care what kind of a bad past Soraya has. -
Baba dies
Amir explains that "(his) whole life, (he)had been 'Baba's son.' Now he was gone. Baba couldn't show (him) the way anymore; (he'd) have to find it on (his) own" (174). Ammir felt vey depressed and lost once Baba died. Baba has always led him and made all decisions for him, and was very sad that he didn't know what to do anymore. -

Amir gets the phone call from Rahim Khan
When Soraya mentions that Amir looks pale, he says "I have to go to Pakistan.' (Soraya) stood up... 'Rahim Khan is very sick'"(191). Amir without a doubt felt like he absolutely needed to go to Pakistan as soon as he heard Rahim was sick. He soon goes after and visits him there. -
Amir finds out Hassan is dead
After Amir reads the letter Hassan wrote him Rahim tells him that the Talibans "...took him to the street....and ordered him to kneel... and shot him in the back of the head... Farzana came screaming and attacked them... shot her too" (219). Amir thinks about what happened during their childhood once again and feels very guilty. He sobs and can't bring himself to believe that Hassan actually was killed. -
Sohrab attempts suicide
Amir find out that Sohrab might have a chance of being able to be adopted, so Amir goes to tell him and "(he) pushed the door open. Stepped into the bathromm. Suddenly (he) was on his knees, screaming. Screaming through (his) clenched teeth. Screaming until (he) thought (his) throat would rip and (his) chest explode" (343). Amir became absolutely shocked and depressed when Sohbrab tried to commit suicide. He became so worried abot him and felt that he absolutely had to find a way to adopt him. -
Sohrab lives, and Amir and him go back to the U.S.
Amir explains that him and Sohrab "arrived home about seven months ago, on a warm day in august 2001" (357). They finally decide to go back to San Francisco after Sohrab recovered from his suicide attempt. They went back to Soraya and she immediantly was welcoming to Sohrab. -
Amir runs a kite for Sohrab
When Amir and Sohrab are in the park, Amir asks "Do you want me to run that kite for you?' (Sohrab's) Adam's apple rose and fell as he swallowed. The wind lifted his hair. (Amir) thought (he) saw (Sohrab) nod. 'For you, a thousand times over,' (he) heard himself say" (371). It is a very good ending to the book, because he is quoting Hassan which really brings a good closure to the book. He thought about Sohrab and Hassan and was happy that he had quoted him and sort of " brought back Hassan". -
US being involved with Afghanistan
"The United States has been militarily incolved in Afghanistan since 2001, when it led an invasion after the Sept 11 attacks by Al Qaeda" (1). -
Amir finds out Hassan and him are half brothers
Rahim tells Amir that "Ali was sterile" and Amir says "No he wasn't. He and Sanaubar had Hassan, didn't they?"... "No they didn't'" (222). Amir finds out that Hassan is his half brother, and feels very betrayed by Baba that he has lied to him all his life. He immediantly feels guilty again about Hassan and how poorly he treated him. -
Amir rescues Sohrab
Amir explained that once Sohrab shot the slingshot at Assef, they "made it outside, into daylight, (Amir's) arm around Sohrab's shoulder, and (he) saw Farid running toward (them)" (291). Amir was getting beat up really bad until Sohrab shot the slingshot at him. They ran outside, and Amir had finally rescued Sohrab -
