  • Bully Encounter

    Amir says, "... you knew about Assef and his famous stinless-steel brass knuckles". (58) This quotation represents the time that Hassan and Amir were bullied. It shows that Assef was very scary to them and known for beating other kids p with his brass knuckles.
  • Standing up to the bully

    When Assef was about to hurt Amir, "Hassan held the slingshot up to his face."( 42) Hassan was bravery and showed courage by standing up for Amir.
  • A run in with the wrong guys

    After amir wins the kite race, he searches for Hassan. While wandering around he finds hassan being extremely violated by Assef. Amir felt guilt for not doing anyhting about it he just, "hid there and watched." (73)
  • A big birthday present

    Made clear in the book, Hassan has a facial issue where he has a harrelip. For one of his birthdays, Baba gets him a plastic surgeon to remove the harrelip and leave him with only a small scar. This meant so much to Hassan and Baba was happy to gift it as he said, "This present will last you forever". (46)
  • A chance to prove his talent

    Amir and Hassan enter a kite race in their city where that is a large tradition. The goal is to "catch the kite by the end of the race" and knock other kites down. (59)
  • Amir frames Hassan

    At this part in the book Amir shows his immaturity by kicking out Hassan because he felt it was awkward that he watched hassan get violated. Amir said, "i couldn't bare to have Hassan in the same house as him." (90)
  • A safe country

    Before many devastating attacks, Afghanistan was a "stable and relatively prosperous" country. (2)
  • Invasion from the soviet

    The invasion resulted in a loss of "15,000 lives and undisclosed billions of rubles."
  • Moving to America

    Hassan and Baba make a huge sacrifice from their lives and social class and move to America after the Soviet invades. When they got to America the book states, "[they] loved the idea of America". (125)
  • Baba dies

    After a long battle with lung cancer he finally dies. Amir is devastated but he has his wife Soraya to comfort him. Baba lived a great life and watched his sons grow up until they were forced to part separate ways. You could tell Amir really wanted his fathre to stay when he said, "I wish you'd give the chemo a chance, Baba". (156)
  • Amir meets his true love

    One day Amir meets Soraya his future wife. After dating for a while they get engaged and then of course married right before Baba dies. Soraya was someone who helped Amir grow and become the man he ended up being.
  • Help from the US

    The US supplied missiles were "supplied to the rebels" in hope to aid the people.
  • Amir finds his manliness

    Before Baba was out of the picture, Amir was always seeking Baba's approval making decisions based on what he waanted. Once baba died amir was forced to not dwell on the past but advnace to the future and realized that he had to make decisions that would benefit himself and his family.
  • Soviet leaves Afghanistan

    The soviet left a country that "was not only devastated by the war but that had become a beacon to Islamic extremists from across the globe" without looking back.
  • Amir goes to Pakistan

    Amir visits Rahim Khan in Pakistan after receivong his phpone call. Rahim Khan says that he lived with Hassan and his family in Babas house while baba and amir were in America. Rahim tells him that Hassan and his wife were killed by the taliban and that hassans son is the only survivor but he is stuck in an orphanage.
  • Amir hears a secret

    After Amir finds out that HAssans son sohrab is stuck in the orphanage, Rahi asks amir to rescue him and bring him back to safety in America. When Amir says no, Rahim decides to tell him somethhing that he hopes will sway his decision. He tells Amir that Hasan is his brother and it would make up for everything he did if he brought back his brothers son.
  • Amirs journey

    Amir begins to search for the orphanage. When he finds it he is informed that Sohrab has already been taken by the Taliban leader and a childhood bully, Assef. Amir and Assef fight so hard to see who will walk away with Sohrab. After a brutal battle, Amir gets Sohrab and takes him back to America immediately.
  • Power divided

    In the summer, "power was anarchiically divided amoung competing warlords and individual fiefdoms" which still left conflict in the country.
  • Persuassion goes wrong

    Amir tries to persuade Sohrab to return to the orphanage so that Amir can oficially adopt him but Sohrab refuses. He says they did bad stuff to him and he doesnt want to go back. When Amir almost forces him to go, Sohrab tries to take his own life by first cutting himself and second trying to drown. Amir ends up helping Sohrab and not making him return to the orphanage.
  • A new ruler

    A man names Mullah Omar had 12,000 people following him and "was rolling up the warlords" to create false hope.
  • Afganistan is taken control of

    The taliban by now controls the Afghanistans "imposing strict enforcement of fundamental Islamic law."
  • Change in ruler

    Hamid Karzai replaced the chairman of the Taliban "making him the leader of the country."
  • Obama's idea

    President Obama made a speech deciding to "deploy 30,000 adiitional troops" to finish the war going on in Afghanistan.
  • Amir gets a call

    In the beginning of the book Amir gets a call from his old friend Rahim Khan. Rahim was always someone Amir looked up to so when Rahim says "[Amir] has a chance to make things right" Amir immediately follows his directions. (1)
  • Presumed ending

    By now, troops are expeted to come home after "a succesful fight against the Taliban."
