As Hassan allowed himself to be blamed for stealing, Amir realized, "This was Hassans's final sacrifice to me," (Hosseini 105). Hassan is so loyal and forgiving that he took responsibility for stealing Amirs watch when really Amir hated himself for not helping Amir.

When Mrs. Nguyen is about to call the police, "Please, Mrs. Nguyen, don't call the police. I'll take him home," (Hosseini 128). Since Baba moved to America, he lost everything an the only thing he has left is his dignity. So Amir has taken responsiblity for him, showing how Amir has the power.

After Hassan refused to leave his house, the Taliban ordered, "him to kneel-" "No, God No" "-and shot him in the back of the head," (Hosseini 219). Hassans death propells Amir into finding Hassans son and bringing him back to America showung the Amir cared deeply for Hassan.

People from far and wide came to see Baba and for the first time in Amirs life, "Baba couldn't show me the way anymore; i'd have to find it on my own. The thought terrified me," (Hosseini 174). For the first time in his life Amir misses Baba. He always showed him the way, but now he must make the decisions.

As Amir came to tell Sohrab that hes going to America," I pushed the door open. Stepped into the bathroom. Suddently I was on my knees screaming." As the parimedics came, "Later, they say I was still screaming when the ambulnce arrived," (Hosseini 343). Amir had gone through so much to save Sohrab and cared deeply for him. Not only were they almost free of the Taliban, but they are family.

As Rahim Khan tells Amir that Hassan is his brother, "How could you hide this from me? From him?" Rahim quickly says, "Please think, Amir jan. It was a shamefull situation," (Hosseini 223). Amir attacks with so much hate because he not only ostricized his best friend, but his brother. Also this shows that Baba, even while dying valued respect to much to let Hassan know who his father was.

While Amir is being beaten by Assef, "The slingshot made a thwiiiiit sound when Sohrab released the cup. Then Assef was sceraming," ( Hosseini 291). Like father like son, the slingshot travels from Hassan to Sohrab acting as a symbol of hope and protection for Amir.

As Amir is being beaten by Assef he starts to laugh, "What was so funny was that, for the first time since the winter of 1975, I felt at peace," (Hosseini 288). This shows that Amir finally believes he is doing the right thing , trying to atone for his actions.
