  • The kite fights

    Amir says, “I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975.” (1) This was when he won the kite fights. Since that day Amir strugled with many problems.
  • Ali and Hassan Quit working for Baba

    Amir says, “I turned thirteen that summer of 1976, Afghanistan’s next to last summer of peace and anonymity.” (93) Baba was extreamly sad when Ali andHassan quit. This changes many things.

  • The first Soviet troops parachuted into Kabul

    The article states," The turmoil andextremism that have dominated its history since then can be traced of the 1979 invasion by the Soviet Union and the reaction both by Afghans and by their allies in the United States and Pakistan." ( Afghanistan- An Overview) There is conflict between the Soviet troops and Kabul. This creats tention between them.
  • Russians invade, Baba and amir leave to the U.S.

    Before the russians invade, "I overheard him telling Baba how he and his brother knew the Russian and Afghan soldiers who worked the checkpoints, how they had set up a "mutually profitable" arrangement." (109) The foreshadowed that it would happen. This was horrible.
  • Amir graduates highschool

    After a while in the U.S.,“That summer of 1983, I graduated from high school at the age of twenty, by far the oldest senior tossing his mortarboard on the football field that day.” (131). Amir had better education in the U.S. moving thtere gave Baba and Amir better oppertunity.
  • Baba is told he has cancer

    Baba is told he has, "Oat Cell Carcinoma." (156) The type of cancer he has is uncurable. Baba did not want to get help for anything because it would just make the pain longer.
  • Amir Asks Soraya to marry him

    Amir tells Baba, "I want you to go khastegari. I want you to ask Gerneral Taheri for his daughter's hand." (161) Amir wants to marry Soraya. He rushed it so Baba could see him be married befor he passes.
  • Amir and soraya start their lives together

    Amir states, "Shortly after Baba's death, Soraya and I moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Fremont, just a few blocks away from the gerneral and Khala Jamila's house." (180) They are moving on. They are happy to be with each other.
  • Baba passes away

    When Baba gets the news he has cancer that is not cureable but they have something that can help him stay healthy he states, "It means it wouldn't change the outcome, just prolong it." (156) Baba knows he does not have much time. He later passes away.
  • Amir finishes his book

    Amir syas, "Six weeks later, a man named Martin Greenwalt called from New York and offered to represent me." (183) Amir can publish his book. He is estatic about the offer.
  • Last Soviet troops left Afghanistan

    This article states, "eventually, after peace talks moderated by the United Nations, the last troops left Afghanistan in February 1989, in what was in effect a unilateral withdrawal." ( Afghanistan - An Overview) After a while Soviet troops left. This was better for Kabul.
  • Amir's book gets published

    Amir says, "There was so much goodness in my life. So much happiness. I wondered whether I deserved any of it." (183) Amir's life is better now. Since he moved to the U.S. everything has been amazing.
  • Amir and Soraya find out they can not have children

    They thing that it was for a reason, "God knows best, bachem. Maybe it wasn't meant to be." (186) They were sad that they could not have children. The idea ofadoption came up but Soraya's father did not like the idea.
  • Mullah has 12,000 followers

    The article states," By the end of the 1994 Mullah Omar had nearly 12,000 followers and was rolling up the warlords to the north and east." (Afghanistan - An Overveiw) Mullah Became really popular. This gave him alot of power.
  • Control of Afghanistan

    This article states, " Taliban... had taken control by Afghanistan, imposing strict enforcement of fedamentalist Islamic law, banning movies and music and forcing women out of schools and into all-enveloping burqa clothing." (Afghanistan - An Overveiw) Afghanistan is now bebing used. It is being set up for the people who will be there.
  • Taliban takes over

    Rahim Kahn states, "When the Taliban rolled in and kicked the Alliance out of Kabul, I actually danced on that street...’ (200). Many people rejoyed when someone took contol. They wanted someone to fix things.
  • Hassan and Farsana were killed by the Taliban

    Hassan and Farsana are killed giving Amir nightmares. Amir shares, "I follow the barrel on its upward arc. I see the face behind the plume of smoke swirling from the muzzle. I am the man in the herringbone vest." (240) Amir dreams it is him who kills Hassan. This is a sign.
  • Attack of Twin Towers

    In this article, " After the attack of the World Trade Center in N.Y. on 9/11 2001, President George W. Busg gave the Taliban an ultimtum to hand over Mr. bin Laden." ( Afghanistan - An Overview) This brought the U.S.protection to attention. They wanted the U.S. to fight back.
  • Amir goes back to Palistan

    Amir heads back because "Rahim Khan is very sick." (191) This makes Amir head back to help. Amir tells his wife he will be back, But he does not not how long it will take.
  • Hamis Karzai elected president

    This article states," He took office as interim president in June 2002, saying he hoped to secure peace for Afghanistan and win the country much-needed international aid." ( Afghanistan - An Overview) The new president will take action. He is going to change something.
  • Amir and Sohrab bond

    Amir states, “the green kite was spinning and wheeling out of control… I looked down at Sohrab. One corner of his mouth had curled up so. A smile. Lopsided. Hardly there. But there” (391). Both of them felt happy flying the kites together. This bond between them was amazing.
