This quote foreshadows what will happen nex tin the story. Assef picks on Hassan so much beause he is a Hazara. Because in their culture Hassan is considered less than.
  • Amir and Hassan Win the Kite Fighting Tournament

    "We won! We won(66)," said Amir. The kite fighting tournament is a really big deal and a yearly tradition in Kabul. People from all around the city gather around to watch these hundreds of kids fly their beautiful kites. Amir and Hassan wer absolutely extatic!
  • Baba's One and Only Sin

    Baba is a heavy drinker, and Anir shares with his father that his religion teacher tells him that drinking is a sin, Baba fires back by saying, "there is only one sin: theft, and every other sin is a variation of theft-(18)." Baba then begins givng examples of how this is true. I think that this shows Baba's strong personality, and how he knows best .
  • Amir Frames Hassan

    Amir makes an irrational decision in an attempt to get rid of Hassan, "I lifted Hassan's mattress and planted my new watch and a handful of Afghani bills under it(104)." Amir does so not becuase he doesn't like Hassan, but because he cannot live with the guilt that he is feeling of watching his best friend get raped and not even try to help. He hates the fact that Hassan always has to stick up for him but he is too muvh of a coward to ever stick up for Hassan.
  • Karim's Inconsiderate Behavior Causes Him Harm

    Karim had found himself in a bit of a sticky situation. "A blur of something zipping across the room, and the next thing I saw was Karim slammed against the wall. Wrapped around his neck were Baba's hands(118)." The bus that they were supposed to switch over to had broken down a week ago leaving some of the passeners in aww as to why Karim would have brought them there in the first place. He did so because he was getting paid anyway and didn't care about anyone else beides himself.
  • Kamal and His Father Die

    Kamal's father is too much for him to take, "Kamal's father shoved the barel into his own mouth and pulled the trigger.(124)." Kamal was already ill as he was raped for being out on the streets, and then the thick fumes in the newly repaired truck had caused him to stop breathing. This was too traumatizing for his father to handle so he to Kamir's gun and killed himself.
  • Baba and Amir Lose Socioeconomic Class By Coming to America

    Baba was very confused, "he wants to see my license(127)." Baba had botten fruit from this same man two years strait and he had no cash so he paid with a check and was asked if they could see his license. He felt like no one trusted him and he was not respected like he once was in Afghanistan.
  • Baba Asks General Taheri's Hand In Marriage for Amir

    Amir had been waiting for some time now and finally it was hear, "the general accepted(163)," said Baba. This was an astonishing moment for Amir, it was finally hear, he was going to get married to the women of his dreams. Amir wanted Baba to do it now becuase Baba wouldn't have been able to do it much later becuase he had lung cancer and sooner than late he was going to die.

    Rahim Khan began to explain, " Ali was sterile and wasn't the father of Hassan(222)." This had just completely changed Amir's life. Sohrab, Hassan's son, was in an orphanage in Kabul and Amir was about to go rescue him and bring him back to America.
  • Rahim Khan is Very Ill

    Amir was very sad as he had to inform his wife Soroya why he had to go to Pakistan, "Rahim Khan is very sick(191)." Rahim Khan was Baba's business partner and a man that Amir loved very much. Amir feels that he needs to go back one last time to say his goodbies and get closure with evrrything that had occured in Afghanistan.
  • Amir Finds Out Hassan and Farzana Are Dead

    Rahim Khan is filling in Amir on what he has missed, "they brought Hassan out to the street and ordered him to kneel. They shot him in the back of the head. Farzara came screaming and attacked them and the Taliban shot her too(219)." Rahim Khan was getting older and could not take care of Baba's home alone. He convinced Hassan and Farzara to come back to Kabul to help look after the place. The Taluban came one day and Hassan told them he was looking after the home, but they didn't believe him..
  • The Orphanage Doesn't Have Sohrab

    Zaman, the orphanange director says with great despair, "There is a Taliban official who visits every month or two. He bring cash with him, not a lot, but better than nothing at all. He usually takes a girl, but not always(255-256)." This quote implies that Sohrab is no longer at the orphanage and has been taken by this Taliban official.
  • Sohrab's Insecurities Cause Him to Attempt Suicide

    Amir was running into the bathroom to tell Sohrab the great news that they were going to America. "I pushed the door open. Stepped into the bathroom. Suddenly I was on my knees, screaming. Screaming through my clenched teath. Screaming until I thought my throat would rip and my cheast explode(343)." Sohrab had taken a razor to his neck and tried to kill himself. He did this becuase he felt emotionally dirty because of all the rapings he had experienced.
  • Amir Takes the Beating of a Lifetime

    Amir talks about his memory of the fight, "My memory of the fight with Assef is amazingly vivid in stretches: I remember Assef turning on the music before slipping on his brass knuckles(288)." For the first time in Amir's life he had stood up against a man who had bullied Hassan and him for as long as he could possibly remember. He had put Sohrab's needs in front of his and did whatever needed to be done in order to give Sohrab a better life.
