    Well developed trade relations between India and Khmer
    Around 400 bce, Khmer and Indian people began trading. This would then go on to influence Khmer culture and religion since Hinduism and Buddhism came from the Indians.

    Use of Iron

    Around 500 bce, Khmer people started using iron to make weaponry and tools.

    Empire's power declines due to it being broke

    Around 1200, the Empire began to fall since the empire was so big, paying all of the people including military was a big ask – at the time King Jayavarman VII was King.

    King Jayavarman VII died
    Renowned for expanding the Khmer Empire to its greatest limits.

    The last Khmer King to use Angkor as a capital

    The Khmer King abandoned it with the capital being relocated to Phnom Penh in the 1440’s.
  • The Khmer Empire's downfall to the Thai's

    After defending itself for years, Khmer finally fell with Cambodia becoming a vassal state of the Thai’s.

  • King Jayavarman II came to power

    Declaring himself a God King, Jayavarman rose to power.
  • King Jayavarman II dies

    This happened just after the construction of his last royal palace at Hariharalaya- was recognised as playing a huge part in expanding the Khmer Empire.
  • King Yasovarman I becomes King

    He soon moves the imperial capital to a city named after himself; Yasodharapura. He encouraged his subjects to worship and praise him.
  • Angkor Wat construction commenced

    Angkor Wat construction commenced
    This was started by King Jayavarman V.
  • King Jayavarman V came to the throne and ruled for the next sixty years

    During his reign he made many cultural and educational developments; women also began to hold important positions religiously and socially.
