The French and Indian War was a war between Great Britain and France that began due to both wanting to extend their territory in North America. The war ended in 1754 with The Treaty of Paris. The result of the war rewarded Great Britain with more territory in North America.
However, there were a lot of disputes over paying for the war and over frontiers that had been made previously. This was a big issue that contributed a lot to the American Revolution -
The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by the British. This turned into a boundary line, or the Proclamation Line of 1763 (established along the Appalachian Mountains). This line was created in order to make peace with Native Americans by preventing colonial settles from crossing over into the land west of the mountains.
This line ended up affecting all 13 colonies, which meant no trade, good farmland, or migration. This made a lot of Colonists upset, which contributed to the American Revolution. -
The Stamp Act was a tax that was forced by the British on all paper documents within the colonies. This tax was forced due to the British having troubles paying for the war French and Indian Revolution debt on their own.
This act definitely upset the Colonists, especially since it wasn't their own "representative assemblies" who were taxing them. This resulted in mob violence and only led the Colonists further into wanting to be independent. -
This act was passed by the Parliament that stated where British soldiers could be housed when boarding in the American Colonies. This meant that British Soldiers would stay within the households of the Colonists and they would need to be provided for (food, water, beds, transportation, etc.)
This whole situation frustrated the Colonists because they were required to let these soldiers into their home and serve their needs. This resulted in group rebellion and further lead to their freedom. -
Passed by the British, these acts were measures taxing any goods imported into the American Colonies. These were passed because the British believed that the Colonists should also contribute to the war debts they had to pay.
The Colonists saw these acts as unfair and many were very angry. Because of this, more British troops were sent into the colonies to enforce these laws, making the tensions between the British and Colonists stronger, leading further to the Revolutionary War. -
This event was a riot that began as a street fight between Colonists and British soldiers, which soon escalated into murder. Street fights among these group of people were common during this time period considering all the other unfair laws the British were enforcing upon the Colonists.
This whole situation made the Colonists very mad and lead further to the American Revolution. A lot of people believe the British decided to kill these people out of their own disregard of the Colonist's lives. -
A law made by the British, the Tea Act was used to force the Colonists to only order tea, trade, and deliver only through this one company after already placing a tax on these things. This act was established due to the British needing more money to pay off debts.
This act made the Colonists furious and caused a revolt (the Boston Tea Party). The Colonists wanted more and more rights and independence so their go to answer was to rebel against the laws set by the British. -
The Boston Tea Party was the result of the angering new law that the British had enforced (Tea Act). 342 chests of tea imported from the British were hurled into the sea.
This event mainly occurred in order for the Colonists to prove a point to the British. They were tired of their laws and overwhelming power that they had over them. The Colonists wanted their independence and this act got them one step further. -
As a result of the Boston Tea party, the British created more laws that were meant to punish the Colonists for this event. These acts basically took away any rights that Massachusetts ever once had, making them fully reliant on the British.
The Colonists obviously saw this as a huge violation on their rights. They saw this as the British completely taking away America's liberties. This whole situation turned even more Colonists agains the British and lead further to the American Revolution. -
The Battles of Lexington and Concord first began because the British were invading to destroy the Colonist's source of weapons, and to also kidnap Samuel Adams and John Hancock. The first shot fired at the Battle of Lexington was what officially marked the start of the American Revolution, or the Colonist's way to freedom.
