    Proclamation of 1763
    King George III issued the Proclamation to stop colonists from settling in lands west of the Appalachian Mountains. Colonists who lived there had to go back. However, some colonists ignored that and still continued to settle west.

    Stamp Act
    When King George III passed this, it placed a tax on all printed items. Even playing cards were taxed.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    One night, a mob shouted at some Brithish soldiers, while trowing rocks and snowballs. The soldiers then fired killing five colonists. Crispus Attucks was the first person killed.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    On that night 150 members of the sons of liberty dressed as american indians and boarded three british ships. Soon After, they threw more than 300 chests of tea into the sea.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Leaders from all the colonies ( except Georgia) met in Philadelphia. It was called the First Continental Congress. They hoped for a peaceful relationship with Great Britain.

    Patrick Henry gave a speech that inspired many colonists. The part that inspired most of them was when he said "give me liberty, or give me death!"
  • Battles at Lexington and Concord

    Battles at Lexington and Concord
    British soldiers marched to Lexington and Concord and were confronted by the minutemen. Paul Revere warned them about the British. Several shots rang out and minutemen were injured and killed. That made the minutemen run. The British went and were confronted by the minutemen again. After alot of fighting, the British retreated. This battle started the war.

    The Declaration of Independence begins with an introduction. That part states why it is needed. It also explains that a group of people have no chice, but to form a new nation. The second part explains the colonists' ideas about government, like unalianable rights.

    The Continental Army won this battle. It gave the colonists confidence and was the turning pointin the war. After it Ben Franklin convinced the French to help them.
  • Surrender at Yorktown

    Surrender at Yorktown
    Lord Cornwallis ( a British General ) was surrounded by the French and the colonists so he had no choice, but to surrender. This battle helped end the war.
  • Signing the Treaty of Paris

    Signing the Treaty of Paris
    The British and the Americans sign the Treaty of Paris. It made Great Britain recognize the colonies as a nation. It also set borders for them. This treaty ended the Revolutionary war.
