Julia's Geologic Timeline

  • Cambrian (570-500 MYA)

Thw Cambrian Period marks an important point in the history on life on Earth; it is the time when most of the major groups of animlas first appear in the fossil record.
  • Ordovician (500-435 MYA)

The period on the echinoderms with underwater marine animals.
  • Silurian (435-395 MYA)

The Silurian period was the time when reefs got their act together, grew really big and created a completely new type of ecosystem for marine life. The earliest terrestial for plants and animals.
  • Devonian (395-345 MYA)

The Devoinian had several major fish lineages that were envolved during this time period. The Sea levels were high and the global climate was warm.
  • Carboniferous (345-280 MYA)

The Carboniferous is famed for having the highest atmospheric oxygen levels the Earth has ever experienced and for the evolution of the first reptiles. Plants would die and grow at a good rate that it became coal.
  • Permian (280-225 MYA)

The Permian period was the process of different types of marine animals. It started as an ice age then ended with a devastating mass extinction that happened on Earth.
  • Triassic (225-195 MYA)

After the worse mass extinction, the Triassic began. Some luch forests grew in part of the area. Life on Earth took a long time to recover and diversify. After all, the very first mammals and dinosaurs evolved.
  • Jurassic (195-136 MYA)

The Jurassic began after the mass extinction event that ended the Triassic. It quickly recovered and the Jurassic eventually became the most diverse range of organisms that Earth had yet seen.
  • Cretacreous (136-65 MYA)

    Cretacreous (136-65 MYA)
The Cretaceous ended with the most famous mass extinction in history. The Cretacreous was the period that killed dinosaurs. This was a very warm period, and was known as the dry land.since sea levels reached their highest ever during this time.
  • Tertiary (65-1.8m MYA)

The Tertiary period was the major portion of the Cenozoic era. Also the earliest placental mammals and modern mammals. There are five main divisions of the Tertiary period. In the beggining,, the Tertiary and Northern America's outline were somewhat similar.
  • Quaternary (1.8m-Present)

    Quaternary (1.8m-Present)
The Quaternary is considered as the "Age of Humans." There is large carnivores, humans and more during this time period. The Quaternary Period can be divided into two time frames.
