    Joseph's parents had built their first house in Orinda, California. It was a ranch-style-mansion, with a post and beam modernist style. This was Joseph's first inspiration.

    Eichler just took a job with real estate development aroung the San Francisco Bay area. His boss taught him well, and fifteen years later, began to build his own types of houses.

    The Highlands at San Francisco Bay area

    Eichler built a range of his modern style homes anywhere from a 3-bedroom starter home to a unique-and almost awkward (for an Eichler) split level homes with up to 6 bedrooms. The subdivision shows a large broad range of different Eichler homes. No 3 are exactly the same.

  • The Mimicing

    Eichler passed away almost 10 years ago. The remainder of his homes were finished being built and sold, but many consumers still wanted one. They obliged and started buying property and built their own Eichler. None have equalled to the original.
  • Eichler Museum

    As a 50th year Anniversary since the first Eichlerhome was built, it was turned into a museum with pictures of the modernist plans and contemporary designer, Joseph Eichler. Even now, (50 years on) these homes still look modern and maybe even futuristic.
