    Jean-Baptiste Lully

    Jean-Baptiste Lully was born on November 28th, 1632. Lully was one of the most important composers for France. He wrote fourteen operas, thirty-six ballets, fourteen comedic ballets, as well as some other genres. Due to being the conductor of an enormous group he had a giant baton/stick he would hit the ground to establish the beat. On the last concert he conducted he stabbed his foot with the baton/stick. Lully died of gangrene on March 22nd, 1687

    Henry Purcell

    Henry Purcell was born on September 10th, 1659. Despite having such a short life, Purcell made some great contributions to the Baroque period as well as music itself. He composed some of the major works like Dido and Aeneas, The Fairy Queen, and Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary. His death was due to either chocolate poisoning, a cold due to being locked outside by his wife, or tubercolosis. Purcell passed away on November 21st, 1695 at the age of thirty-six.

    Antonio Vivaldi

    Antonio Vivaldi was born on March 4th, 1678. Vivaldi was a very talented violinist as well as a composer. He wrote over five hundred concertos about half of them being for the violin. Vivaldi also composed sacred music, some operas, and chamber music. He passed away on July 28th, 1741 at the age of sixty-three.

    George Frideric Handel

    George Frideric Handel was born on February 23rd, 1685. In the beginning he showed great talent with music but ended up going into law. Later on he went back to music and ended up being one of the great composers of the Baroque period. Some of his major compositions include the Messiah and Music for the Royal Fireworks. Handel passed away on April 14, 1759 a little after the Baroque period ended.

    Johann Sebastian Bach

    Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21st, 1651. His contributions to the Baroque period were astounding. Bach composed over 1000 pieces including works for voice, organ, keyboard, chamber pieces, and solo pieces. He later passed away on July 28th, 1750 dying with the Baroque period.

    Toccata and Fugue in D minor was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. This is one of the most well known and favorite pieces done by Bach. The composition date for this piece is in the air but the piece was published in 1833 by Felix Mendelssohn.     Music for the Royal Fireworks was composed by George Frideric Handel in 1749. This massive wind band suite was composed for King George the II. It is a five movement piece that involves many instruments including twenty four oboes.
