After graduating from University with a BA in French, she worked in London as a researcher for Amnesty International.

When she was 26 she left the UK to teach English in Portugal.

Marriage

She met and married a journalist and their daughter, Jessica, was born on 27th July 1993

First Harry Potter Book

Her marriage ended in divorce and she moved to Edinburgh, Scotland. It was during this period that she started her first Harry Potter novel, which she wrote in a café while her daughter ewas asleep.

First novel published

She published Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997 and in the same year she won one of the most important book awards in Britain. Since then milions of people have read her books in many different languages.
