  • Founding of Jamestown

    Founding of Jamestown
    Jamestown was founded by Captin John Smith. The Virginia Company of London founded this colony in search of economic oppuratunity.
  • House of Burgesses

    House of Burgesses
    The House of Burgesses had its first meeting in July 1619 to make local government in Virginia more responsive to the colonists.The House of Burgesses was given the power to to make legislation for Jamestown.
  • Founding of the Plymouth Colony

    Founding of the Plymouth Colony
    A group of 101 people called the Pilgrims voyaged to Plymouth for religious freedom.
    The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of the Plymouth Colony. It helped form the governement.
  • Founding of Massachusetts Bay

    Founding of Massachusetts Bay
    John Winthrop founded the Massachusetts Bay colony because of religious reasons. The people were known as the Puritans. They were well-educated and wealthy people which made them credible and eventually made them one of the more influencial colonies.
  • Pequot War

    Pequot War
    In this war the Pequots were defeated by the colonists led by John Underhill and John Mason allied with the Narragansetts and Mohegans. The war started over territorial issues. In the end the Pequots population was minimal and had no defense.
  • King Philip’s War (Metacom)

    King Philip’s War (Metacom)
    This war was started by Native Americans that were tired of living under Colonial laws. Metacom was a Wampanoag man who later became known as King Philip by the English. King Philip led the retaliation of the Native Americans. In the end the Native Americans lost the battle and lost a lot of their people which cleared the way for Colonial expansion.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion
    Virginia farmers were upset with the high taxes and the low prices of tobacco, the Indian attacks, and other economic problems and they blamed Governor William Berkeley for these problems. Nathaniel Bacon was a wealthy planter that arose and led a rebellion in Jamestown. Bacon’s Rebellion was significant because it was one of the first times in America’s history in which people won their right to vote and had representation in government.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    Salem Witch Trials
    19 men and women that were convited of witchcraft were hung. These convictions were not justified. Betty became very ill and started having obsure symptoms. The village doctor came to a conclusion that the girl was sick because of witchcraft. Townspeople started acusing people of witchcraft. No one was safe from accusations
  • French and Indian War (1754-1763)

    French and Indian War (1754-1763)
    The French and Indian war was one of many wars fought between the British and French. British wanted to occupy French lands in North America and the British wanted to take over the fur trade in the French held territory. The war came to peace through the peace treaty of 1763. The British got most of the French territory. The after math of the war cost a lot of money so the British started taxing the colonists.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    This was an act passed by the British Empire that stated that soliders were aloud to stay in the colonists home with no fees. The Colonists were also obligated to feed them too.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Red Coats were not welcome in the colony and there was already tension between The Red Coats and the Colonists. The Colonists threw snowballs, sticks, and stones and a shot was fired. This fight helped lead to the Revolutionary war.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    This was an act passed by British Parliament that taxed tea. East India Company lowered the prices of tea and British put a high tax on the tea. The Colonists were angry because they had no representation of the Act being passed.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Angry colonists called the Sons of Liberty were angry at the new tax on tea so they showed their frustrations through dumping 342 crates of British tea into the Boston harbor. This event was one of the many prostests that led to independence.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Series of Acts were passed by King George III that were meant to be a punishment for the colonists.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The first shots starting the revolution were fired at Lexington, Massachusetts.The Colonists were expecting a fight with the Red Coats. Those men were called Minutemen. They were prepared to fight at anytime.
  • Texas Independence

    This is the day Texas broke free from Mexico which led to the Republic of Texas.
  • Mexican-American War

    Mexican-American War
    This war was started because Americas belief of Manifest Destiny to move westard. However, Mexico owned the territory that America wanted. The effects of the Mexican-American War was that America gained more territory but also gained conflict over slavery.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
    This treaty ended the Mexican American War (1846-1848). Mexico and America agreed to give up %55 of their lands in return for $15 million.
  • Spanish-American War

    Spanish-American War
    This was a conflict between Spain and the US. The 1898 Treaty of Paris negotiated on terms favorable to the US. The treaty allowed American control of Cuba. America bought Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines from Spain. This was significant becaue it started Imperialism.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The act required the use of stamped paper for legal documents, diplomas, almanacs, broadsides, newspapers and playing cards.
