My beautiful little girl started babling today, or making speechlike but meaningless sounds (158). When she first started I wanted her to say mama but I realized that it is healthy for her to be babling and unrealistic for her to use words so early. It is so much fun to watch her devloping!

Today Lolita was no longer surprised at the toy hidden under her blanket, instead she removed the blanket as if to say, "look its still there mom!". This is impressive as it means that Lolita is displaying object permanence, defined as the realization that people and objects exist even when they cannot be seen (145). The ability to display object permanence lets me know that my baby is cognitively on the right track as she is anticipating future events.

Lolita began demonstrating goal-directed behavior today. Goal-directed behavior is defined in the text on page 145 as "behavior in which several schemes are combined and coordinated to generate a single act to solve a problem". Lolitas demonstrated this ability by pushing on toy out of the way to play with the other toy underneath of it, which was barely showing. This is the fourth stage Piaget refers to and indicates that Lolta is developing regularly as this behavior is from 8-12 months.

Lolita was watching other toddlers at the daycare center pretending to be fighting and she had never seen this before, so she looked back at me and I smiled a big smile to let her know it was okay. This behavior is called social referencing and is used to learn information about others feelings to help explain the meaning of uncertain circumstance (174).

Lolita has been waking up from 3-4 hour naps dry, so we have started poitty training! She is considered early in this development as a 1999 report demonstrated that 60 percent of children are still not poitty trained at 36 months (213). More information on teaching your child to be poitty trained can be found here:

Lolita has begun demonstrating fast-mapping. Fast-mapping is defined as the process in which new words are associated with their meaning after only a brief encounter (231). Lolita was four years old when I first noticed the fast mapping occuring at a more rapid pace. She has a minimum vocabulary of 1000 words now! This is important because speech development encourages all types of development.

Lolita is feeling frustrated and she is trying our for a litle league and she cannot throw a ball as far as the boys who are also trying out. Lolita is experience normal develop due to the amount of muscle growth she has in comparison to boys of the same age. Overall her physical development is congruent with other girls her age via our textbook page 211.

Lolita is now 11 years old and is wuite independent, at her age I was alone a lot and feel that it really helped me become more confident. So I decided that after school she would be allowed to be home alone for about an hour until I got off work. This is called being a self-care child (341). This is comon in 12 percent of homes and has been found to be a helpful time for decompression and may increase Lolitas competence and independence.
