Japan Timeline

  • 1603 BCE

    Edo Period

    Christianity is banned in Japan. Japan Isolates themselves for 200 years. Mt Fuji erupts. Friction between Japan and Britain when a British merchant is killed on Japanese soil.
  • 1573 BCE

    Warring states period

    Japan invades korea. Japans new leader, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, unifies Japan and authorises the new third Shogunate.
  • 1336 BCE

    Ashikaga Period

    Ashikaga shogunate takes power. Christianity is introduced to japan by a man called Francis Xavier.
  • 1185 BCE

    Kamakura Period

    A new government is formed called the Kamakura shogunate government. Mongols attempt to invade twice japan but are taken out by horrible weather conditions. The emperor didn't really have power but the shogans did.
  • 794 BCE

    Heian Period

    The capital city moved to Kyoto from the original capital, Nara. No one clan was in power until the Kamakura period started. Emperor Kammu is in charge.
  • 710 BCE

    Nara Period

    The establishment of the imperial dynasty; The first central government of Japan. Emperor Kammu is in control.
