Emperor Hirohito is born in 1901. -
Japan expands
Japan annexed Korea and took over northeastern China. -

He was elected as leader of Japan and was thought to be a descendant of the sun god. -
World War 2
It begins. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan bombs Pearl Harbor causing the US to enter the war. -
Japan surrenders
World War 2 ends and the country is left in rubbles. -
The Diet
The government was made of the diet whichis an elected legislature and a prime minister. -
U.S rebuilds Japan
After World War 2, the United States rebuilt Japan so the wouldn't become communist. -
General Douglas Macarthur
The general forces the emperor to say he is not a descendant of the sun god. -
New Constitution
The Macarthur constitution contained a Bill of Rights that gave basic freedoms. This constitution prevents Japan from starting wars. -
The US makes Japan a Democracy.
They also limited the amount of troops Japan could have. Japan was also not allowed to start a war. -
The U.S. leaves
The U.S. stops occupying Japan. -
Japan signs Treaty
Japan signed a peace treaty with allies and agreed to pay all war reparations. -
Hirohito dies
He dies at age 87. -
