    Japanese troops murdered the military ruler of Manchuria. His name was Zhang Zuolin a.k.a. Chang Tso-lin. Japanese militarists were infuriated by his failure. He was not able to stop the adance of the Nationalists.

    Manchuria
    Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931. One day there was an explosion near a railway line owned by Japan's South manchuria Railway. The Japanese Army blamed this event on the Chinese and responded with a full invasion on them.This followed by the Mukden Incident (also known as the Manchurian Incident).

    Politcal Change: Takahashi Korekiyo
    Takahashi was the 20th Prime Minister of Japan. He was known as an expert on finance. He was assinated by rebelling military officiers in the February 26 Incident. Takahashi realized that the economy was in danger during 1934 even though Japan was out of the depression by 1933. To avoid overheating, he reduced spending and went to armaments and munititons.

    Nanjing Massacre
    The Nanjing Massacre began on December 13, 1937 to January 1938 in Nanjing, China. This took place for six weeks. The Imperial Japanese Army killed an estimate of 300,000 Chinese civilians. These civilians were raped, murdered, and pillaged. This event remains a political issue. Japan admitted to the killing of a large number, but deny that such crimes occured.
