While in Africa, Jane met Louis Leakey, a famous scientist, to talk about animals. Mr. Leakey hired Jane as his secretary.

Mr. Leakey sent Jane to Gombe Stream National Park to study chimpanzee behavior.

Leakey arranged for Jane to go to Cambridge University where she studied animal behavior and earned her degree.

Jane wrote and published her first book, "Behavior of the Free Ranging Chimpanzee"-describing her first five years at Gombe Park

In 1977, Goodall established the Jane Goodall Institute-JGI that supports the Gombe Park research- which helps to protect Chimpanzees and their habitat.
