In the 1950’s, people listened to ‘rock ’n’ roll,’ the blues, pop, country, and jazz. Artists such as Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, and Elvis Presley had hits in ‘rock ‘n’ roll.’ Some popular ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ music that was played in the 1950’s is “The Great Pretender” which was written by The Platters. Blues in the 1950’s had a huge influence on American popular music. Doo Wop entered the pop charts in the 1950’s. Its popularity made a parody “Who Put the Bomp.” -
1960's
The 1960’s had a lot of popular music too. 1960’s. The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Animals, and The Beatles were the most prominent music bands in the 1960’s. The Beatles emerged as the most popular and one of the most bands in history of success. Other popular artists and groups in the 1960’s are The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, The Bee Gees, and The Supremes. -
1970's
In 1970’s there was a lot of music that was not mentioned in the 1950’s and the 1960’s. Two popular groups in the 1970’s are disco and rock. Disco is the genre of music in the 1970’s.Rock in the 1970’s was awesome! There were so many different kinds of rock. There was glam rock, power rock, blues rock, punk rock, and progressive rock. Rock was a hit sensation for the past 3 years. -
1980's
The music in the 1980's was great! Popular artists in the 1980's are Run D.M.C., Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, and Bon Jovi. Michael Jackson and Madonna were the most powerful musicians of the 1980's. Both of them sang hip hop songs like Michael Jacksons "Thriller." Some popular artists in the 1980's of country music are Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Van Shelton, and Holly Dunn. They had great artists and songs in the 1980's! -
1990's
The 1990's music had many new popular artists and songs! There was a new kind of music which is grunge. There was also alternative rock. Grunge is a sub-genre of alternative music and grunge artists became very popular. Alternative rock entered the music mainstream in 1990. This is also when alternative rock artists became popular. There are a lot of great songs like Achy Breaky Heart, Ice Ice Baby, and Black and White. -
2000's
The 2000's music is basically the same kind of music as the decades before, except for one new one. This kind of music was called "emo." " Emo" peaked it popularity in 2005-2006. It expanded beyond the music world, associating it with fashion, and hairstyles.Not much is really said about "emo" music in he 2000's. Some other great song in the 2000's, other than "emo" music, are YMCA, Old Time Rock and Roll, soul Man, American Pie, and many more! There were so many awesome songs in the 2000's. -
2010
Finally, it is the present day music, which is 2010. The music in 2010 changed dramatically over the past 70 years. There are many new popular artists then back then. There is Justin Bieber, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Akon. These music artists are the some of the best music artists in 2010. There are so many different albums, that the list would be too long to write.
