    The alliance system is agreements or promises to defend and help another country. Bismarck wanted to isolate France because he felt they wanted revenge for their defeat in the France – Prussian War. He created an alliance with Germany and Austria – Hungary. Taking sides is a petty way to isolate a country, France, however Bismarck did it to neutralize France’s powers.

    The Triple Alliance between was Germany, Austria – Hungary, and Italy. It was created in 1882. It is important because without it people wouldn’t attack because of grudges and or alliances. It made WW1 a bigger event than just Austria – Hungary attacking Serbia. Austria – Hungary had alliances with Germany and Italy that strengthens their attack.

    Kaiser Wilhelm II was the new ruler of Germany. He wanted to be the sole ruler of Germany so he forced Bismarck the chancellor of Prussia to resign. This caused a lapse of treaty with Russia in 1890 due to Wilhelm’s negligence. Russia got back by forming a treaty with France in 1892 through 1894 a country hated by Germany as seen from the isolation.     Germany had failed to renew its treaty with Russia and Germany. So Russia ended up forming an alliance with France instead in 1892. This was Germany’s fear. This alliance allowed both countries involved to be more powerful. And it came in handy when Russia protected Serbia and France was attacked by Germany. The war was because of multiple alliances and this alliance was a key part of the fallout.

However France had the most European support This shows imperialism because controlling countries was a big part of being imperialists. And Germany a country late to the scramble didn't have any "street credit" to get support for control of Morocco.

    German they formed a navy in an attempt to rival Great Britain. This scared Britain because they felt intimidated so they formed an entente with France and Russia in 1907. This didn’t bind Britain to fight with them if they had enemies, however it kept their countries relationships peaceful. This drew the lines for the alliances preceding WW1.

    In 1908 Austria annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina these areas that were basically the Serbian’s property because of their large population of Slavic people. Annexation is a form of imperialism, which is empire building or completion for colonies. This made the tension with Austria and Serbia grow. Serbs swore that they would take the annexed land away from Austria. An Austria said they wouldn’t let Serbs undermine Austria’s authority in the Balkans.     The first declaration of war on July 28, 1914 was made by Austria – Hungary because they blamed Serbia for the death of their political leader the Archduke of Ferdinand. This reaction to the spark like assassination was the reason of war between most of Europe.

This was a min part in the continuation of war throughout Europe.

    A Serbian assassination group called the Black Hand assassinated Ferdinand, the Archduke of Austria – Hungary on June 28, 1914. They were able to kill the Archduke through a series of coincidences. However this event sparked the tension between Austria – Hungary and Serbia who eventually fight on an intense level.

    One of the last main declarations of war was Britain on Germany. August 4th, 1914. This assured the end to peace for a long time until the end of the European war.
