    Treaty of Versailles Is Signed
    The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty that was imposed upon Germany after the end of WWI. The treaty included a number of punishing conditions on Germany, and was a major factor in Adolf Hitler seizing power in Germany and causing WWII.
  • The League of Nation is created

    The League of Nation is created
    The League of Nations was created to maintain a peaceful relationship between all countries and to make sure there was never going to be another world war because everyone was going to respect each other and not fight against each other. This organization had no real power because it did not have an army which made it vulnerable and so some countries didnt listen. The League of Nations failed because another world war happened just a few years after.

    Benito Mussolini Becomes Dictator of Italy
    Benito Mussolini became president and dictator of Italy bringing the worlds first fascist dictatorship. Mussolini and his Blackshirts eliminated all oppostion towards him and terrorized all the people and the king in to bringing him into power. This had great influence on Adolf Hitler coming into power.

    The stock market crash in 1929 created a large, worldwide economic crisis known as the Great Depression. Millions of people were unemployed and the economies of most nations were in crisis. This downfall allowed for dictators like Hitler and Mussolini to take power in Germany and Italy.

    Because of the Great Depression Japan was also experiencing economic crisis which made them desperate for resources. This led to Japan invading Manchuria, a region in China for its coal and iron resources. This event demonstrated how the League of Nations was ineffective and useless

    Adolf Hitler is appointed as Chancellor of Germany
    Hitlers appointment to Chancellor was German president Hindenburg's desperate attempt to stabilize a chaotic political environment in Germany by giving the people something to believe in. After Hitler seized control of Germany as the dictator he began rearming Germanys army with him as the fascist dictator of it all.

    Italy invaded Ethiopia
    Benito Mussolini led the Italian invasion into the African country of Ethiopia, in an effort to establish italian empires and to gain valuable resources for italy. This was yet another failure of the League of Nations because they did very little in stopping Italy from invading Ethiopia.

    Germany Reoccupied the Rhineland
    Germany was forced to give up the Rhineland area of Germany as a condition of Treaty of Versailles. Germany marched into Rhineland, breaking their conditions of the treaty. They occupied the Rhinelands and the League of Nations did very little in stopping Germany. Hitlers expansion of Germany continued because no one could stop them.

    Anschluss means Uniting Germanic-speaking people in Germany and Austria. Germany was not allowed to have relations with Austria under the Treaty of Versailles but Hitler said they must be united because they are both Germanic speaking people. When Germany occupied Austria they were met with very little force.

    After Hitler annexed Austria, he next wanted to take control of Czechoslovakia. Both Hitler and Mussolini entered an agreement with Britain and France that stated Hitler could occupy the Germanic-speaking area of Czechoslovakia known as Sudetenland, with the condition that Hitler could not take anymore territory from their countries. After agreeing to the Munich Agreement Hitler took over all of Czechoslovakia which he was not supposed to do.

    After Germany had marched on Poland Britain realized they had failed to uphold peace and had no choice but to stand up to Germany's army and declare war on them. This is what began the second world war.
  • Germany Invaded Poland

    Germany Invaded Poland
    After Germany had occupied Czechoslovakia they wanted to take over Poland. They made an agreement with Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union to divide Poland between the two countries. Soon after this Germany marched onto Poland and took it over. Germany's invasion of Poland broke their conditions of the Munich Agreement and was evidence that the policy of appeasement of Hitlers aggression had failed.
