    The Weimar Republic was run by the Weimar government that supported the treaty of Versailles. The submitted to all the demands of the "big three" (US, Britain, France) and as a result the people under them became bitter. The Weimar Republic did not fall until Hitler came to power, they had little support and were easy to depose of.

    Treaty of Versailles is signed

    This is the point in time that the Treaty of Versailles was signed by all nations it affected. The Treaty of Versailles was a list of terms that Germany was forced to agree to that included giving up land and reducing military. It was believed to be actions to prevent another war and to weaken Germany. However rather then do this, the Treaty weakened Germany to the point where it set that stage for Hitler to come to power, therefore it indirectly was a cause to WWII rather then a preventative.
  • League of Nations is Created

    League of Nations is Created

    This was the moment that the idea that was called the League of Nations ceased to be simply a dream and became reality. Although their president had suggested it the US was not apart of this organization, and although it was dreamed to be a peacekeeping organization, the League of Nations simply lacked the force to live up to the threats they made. When Japan and Germany began to rise up the League of Nations had no power or military to stop them.

    One of the Terms of the treaty of Versailles included Frances access to the Rhineland, including the Ruhr, this location was rich in recourses and although it belonged to Germany they were no permitted to have Military within in and France was given access.

    This event included two thousand Nazis marching on the Feldherrnhalle, 16 of the Nazi party and 4 police officers were killed. Hitler was captured and was tried as guilty of treason, however this gave him a platform to voice his views and the event increased his popularity. This event is part of the process that began Hitlers rise to power within Germany.

    The Dawes Plan was a loan from the United States to Germany so that Germany would be able to pay back their war debts and rebuild their economy, however the plan failed and ended up leaving Germany bankrupt, this is one more event the helped push Germany down to the point it was at when Hitler rose.

    Benito Mussolini becomes dictator of Italy

    Mussolini was an Italian with strong right-wing facist ideas. After WWI Mussolini formed the Italian Facist Party. He was popular, but unable to defeat the socialist party. Mussolini, his party and 30,000 others marched to the Capital and overthrew the government. Mussolini was a facist and quickly made popular ideas of expansion, turning Italy into a police and military state. This was just one more facist nation with a national interest of expansion.

    The Lorcarno Treaties are Signed

    The Locarno treaties were agreements between Germany and the Allies where Germany would be permitted to rebuild from WWI with peaceful relations with the Allies. In return Germany promised to not go to war once more. However these treaties caused the Allies to trust Germany and even when Hitler was increasing his military and beginning to invade other nations, the Allies continued to believe he would never go to war. This caused him to have virtually no push back for the beginning of the war.
  • The Kellogg-Briand Pact is signed

    The Kellogg-Briand Pact is signed

    This pact included nations agreeing to not use war as means of settling disputes, it was signed by most of the nations that had participated in the war. This pact was then broken when Germany began their invasion. This was another pact that caused the Allies to trust Germany even when it was apparent that Germany was an expansionist nation with a national interest of taking more land.

    The Great Depression was a sad time for many in Japan, the US, Britain and other nations. During this time these nations ceased to focus on their military, and as a result were weak in many ways. With the US and Britain below their average strength Germany (the only nations to be thriving) had the advantage in the war.

    Manchuria was rich in coal and recourses, specifically when Japan lacked, Japan wanted to set up a puppet government within Manchuria so that they would have access to the recourses in the nation. They invaded Manchuria and received no forceful pushback from the league of nations, proving its ineffectiveness.

    This is the point that Hitler came to power within Germany, he quickly caused the nations to become much more right-wing and facist as well as incorporating Nazism and Racist and promoting ideas through propaganda, he began readying the Nation for their expansion.

    This was Italy's first invasion, and it included deliberate attacks on hospitals and civilians and the use of mustard gas, the Ethiopian emperor pleaded with the League of Nations for help but received nothing. Ethiopia was very out matched and was defeated.

    This was Germanys first invasion and a deliberate disobedience of the treaty of Versailles. However after they invaded and drove France out they received nothing in the form of force from any of the "Big three".

    This was the alliance between Italy and Germany, both nations were facist and expansionist and this alliance did not speak well for the Allies. Both Hitler and Mussolini wanted to expand their empires and this alliance benefited both of them.

    That was an anti communism pact signed by Germany and Japan, it was in a way an alliance against the Soviet Union but it showed how serious these facist nations were in destroying communism. The Pact was specifically against communism international or "Comintern" This is also a similarity the Axis had with the Allies as the Allies also wanted to stop the spread of communism.

    This was when Austria and Germany became one country. At the time Austria was holding a referendum on weather they should join Germany but rather then wait for the results Germany invaded before they were counted, Austria was taken quickly and Peacefully and they became one nation.

    The Munich Agreement was a form of appeasement, Britain wanted to avoid war at all costs and so their chamberlain began an idea of appeasement, they gave Germany basically what they wanted in order to avoid conflict. Germany was permitted to have Sudetenland and any German speaking nations, and he had to say he would not use his military to take any more land. However this tactic did not help avoid war as Germany invaded Czechoslovakia in 1939 disobeying the agreement.

    This was a direct disobedience of the Munich agreement signed only a year earlier, Czechoslovakia was weak and quickly taken over as the next step of Hitlers plan.

    This was an agreement between the Soviet Union and Germany that if either attacked Poland it would not be considered an act of aggression but they would split the land between them. Including that they would not attack each other, this was quickly broken when Germany invaded The Soviet Union less then two year later.

    Germany invaded Poland from all directions and took over, splitting the land with the Soviet Union as had been decided by the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact.

    And finally after attempting different tactics to avoid war, Britain declared war on Germany, France and Britain were Allies to Poland and in response to Germanys invasion war was declared. After war was declared no major events occurred while Britain prepared for war, they also dropped many anti-Nazi propaganda pamphlets over Germany.
