J P Knight installs the first ever traffic lights
The world's first traffic lights were installed near London's House of Commons (intersection of George and Bridge Streets) in 1868. They were invented by J P Knight. The lights worked by pulling a lever to either green or red to make the coloured gas turn on. This procedure was ran by a policeman who was in charge of it all. Unfortunatley only a month later the lights exploded and badly injured the policeman that was in control. -
