Britian and France declare war on Germany
Due to the invasion of Poland, France and Britian deside to team up against Germany. -
Axis advance
The Axis invade France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. -
Italy declares war on France and Britain
Italy, under the rule of Benito Mussolini, joined the axis powers, and invaded France. The did not conquer much land. -
Battle of Britian begins
Large air battle over Britian, that ends the German advance. -
Tripartite pact
Signed on this day, it made Germany, Italy, and Japan into the Axis powers. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan attacks the United States at Pearl Harbor. Many ships are sunk, but no U.S. aircraft carriors where present. (this event was acually happened in Dec. 8th in Japan.) -
U.S. joins the war
The U.S. declares war on Japan and Germany, because of Pearl Harbor, "A day that will live in infamy" by Franklin D. Roosevelt -
Doolittle Raid
A raid made by the United States, using B-25's flying from an aircraft carrior, against Japan. The bomber flew over the mainland and droped bombs. This did very little damage, but increased the moral of U.S. forces greatly -
Battle of Coral Sea
Lasted until May 8. The first battle where ships never fire shells at each other, instead the battle was almost completely and air battle. Allies won. -
Battle of Midway
Lasted until June 7th. Large scale fleet battle, but the ships never saw each other. Only planes saw the other ships. -
Battle for Guadalcanal
Ended February 9, 1943. End result of a U.S. victory. -
Battle of Kursk
German attack against Kursk. They where repelled at July 16. Then the Solviets counter-attacked. -
Battle of Normandy
Also called D-Day, this was the day that allied forces began there offencive on Germany. -
Truman takes office
Franklin D. Roosevelt dies. Moral is lost on allied side. -
Germany surrenders
Berlin is captured, and Germany Surrenders -
Churchill leaves office
During a general election, Winston Churchill is replaced -
Nuking of Hiroshima
The first nuke to ever be used in combat was droped on Hiroshima, in order to force japan into surendering. -
Nuking of Nagasaki
The second and last atomic bomb to ever be used in combat to date. -
Japan Surenders (end of WWII)
Due to the U.S. nuking it, Japan surenders. The treaty was signed on the USS Missouri
