    What happened was that Japan had been blocked off from the world for many years denying trade with anyone, until the US can in with battleships and persuaded them into opening trade with the world. This was important because it marked the start of the US becoming a world power.
  • US Purchases Alaska

    What happened was that Alaska was purchased form Russia by the US and added as a state. This was important because it one almost doubled the size of the US and also started the US process towards expansion in a big way.
  • Cuban Rebellion

    The Cuban Rebellion was the Cubans in cuba turning against Spain and wanting independence and eventually causing a war between Spain and it’s rebel’s. This was important because it was this conflict that lead American into the Spanish American war which lead to large quantities of territory gain by the US.

    This was originally meant to keep Roosevelt out of the way and out of New York by having him be the Vice President, however this position lead to him becoming president after William McKinley’s assassination. The reason that this was significant was that it lead to Roosevelt becoming President and starting the period of imperialism off rapidly and with big stick Diplomacy.

    The Spanish American war was between the country of Spain and the US over the territories of Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and Cuba. This was important because after the war the US had the opportunity to take these smaller countries and begin to expand across the globe.

    What happened was that the US supported a rebelion of the current government of Hawaii and then this new government requested to annexed into the US. I thought this was important because it showed the US starting to use what would be referred to as Big Stick Diplomacy, were the US government would step in to alter the course of other countries with force and military power.

    This event resulted in the US gaining control over Cuba, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico. This is important because it also gave the US influence in Latin American and in parts of Asia while also showing the military power the US has to rest of the world by so easily defeating Spain.

    What happened was the US needed a trading partner to exchange goods with and China was good suited to trade with the US, however there were trade restrictions. So in response to the trade restrictions the US suggested Open Door trading were there is an open free market and China is ensured that the US does not try to colonies china.

    This was basically Roosevelt taking up the role of a head world power and using his position to negotiate peace between the Russians and the Japanese. This was important because it was the first time that the US had really policed the general area of Asia and settled disputes between to other large countries further defining the US job as a national superpower.

    What the White fleet was was a armada of ships that were assembled and then sent around the world. This was important because the White fleet was a show of military strength for the US, and went on a “good will cruise” to show the world the military strength of America.
