    (This relates to immigration because, if Vikings didnt arrive and find the land, the immigrants wouldnt know that this land exists.)

    John Cabot was a talented Mediterranean navigator who was a citizen of Venice. John Cabot sails to America to find new land for the English. He found the Newfoundland. One of the first Europeans since the Vikings. Later, he brings more Europeans to Canada; although was not seen after his 2nd voyage.

    Jacques Cartier makes his trip to North America
    In 1534, Jacques Cartier convinced the king of France to pay for a trip to North America, and this became Jacques Cartier's first voyage. Cartier's main accomplishment was mapping the St.Lawrence River.
    (This relates to immigration because, with Cartier's accomplishment of mapping the St.Lawerence River more people were attracted to explore Canada.)

    - Catholic canadians are allowed to hold public office

    The Canadian government started to bring lots of Chinese people to Canada to work on the rail road, mostly on the dangerious parts that Canadain people would not want to work on. This increased the population, although this was a cruel thing that the Canadian government did.

    The failure of Potato crop caused a widespread famine in Ireland during 1840s. The people of Ireland imigrated to Canada because they are evicted from their homes when the families are unable to pay their rent by ruthless landlords, survivors then were forced to immigrate.

    Chinese people migrate to Canada + Implementation of Head Tax for Chinese People

    The Chinese people migrated to Canada to help build the Canadian Pacific Railway. They were building the most difficult and dangerous sections of the railway. One Chinese worker died every mile of the track laid between Vancouver and the Rockies. The Chinese people were treated very poorly in the early 1900s. To put a stop at Chinese immigration, a Head Tax was put. Buisnesses found ways to cut Chinese workers, the Chinese workers only earned $50 - $500 salary per 2 years.

    Louis riel was captured, then hung on november, 16, 1885 because of the "teason" he was accused of commiting. He was trying to fight the Canadian government because he wanted a piece of land to become a provice and be apart of canad for the first nations people.

    Through Prime Minister, Wilfrid Laurier's Open Door immigration policy, about 1 million immigrants came to Canada. More than half are from the United States and Great Britain, and others from Europe, almost none spoke French.

    In 1948, the Chinese immigrants were finally allowed to become Canadian citizens.
