During WW1 and WW2 nationalism played a large role in affecting governments even in big powers such as the Soviets and Germany by either creating new ones or creating habits of actions by them. -
Germany Declares War on Russia
Germany declares war on Russia due to their alliance with Austria-Hungary. This shows change as past German leaders wanted to have atleast one alliance with Russia or Germany in order to avoid a two front war. -
Arab Revolt
Due to strong nationalism among the Arabs, they wanted to become independent from the Ottoman Empire. This shows change as colonies will soon begin to try to break away from their empire. -
Russian Revolution
During WW1 The autocracy in Russia was overthrown. This shows change as the governent in Russia was overthrown. The Bolshleviks (communists) came into power. -
US Declares War On Germany
The US finally decides to declare war on Gemrany. This shows change as the US prior to this did not want to be involved in outside conflits. However things such as the Zimmerman Telegram and the sinking of the Lusitania led to the US getting involved in WW1. -
May Fourth Movement
This was an anti-imperial movement in China. It was also a response to China's weak showing in the Treaty of Versailles. This shows change as the it was an upsurge of chinese nationalism. -
League of Nations
After the WW1, the League of Nations was formed in order to promote world peace. This shows change as it is the first intergovernmental organization. -
Facism in Italy
After Benito Mussolini came into power in Italy, Italy's form of government became facist. This shows change as their form of governance changed but also its shows continuity because the were facist throughout WW2 and the era prior to it. -
Nazi Party In Germany
The Nazi party comes into power in Germany. This shows change as the Germans had a Democratic govenrment after WW1. After its failure the people saw the Democrats as weak and wanted a new government. This lead to Hitler and the Nazis rise to power. -
Hitler-Stalin Non Agression Pact
Before the start of WW2, the Soviets and Germany agree to not take up military action against each other for then next ten years. This shows change as they had two different forms of government (Germany was facist and Soviets were communist). Due to thier differnet forms of government, the two did not get along before.
