  • Declaration of Independence

    July 4th, 1776 was the day that the Delcaration of Independence was signed and we gained freedom from Britian
  • Ratification of the Constitution

    On September 17th, 1787, the Constitution was approved/ Previous to this the Constitutional Convention occured and the topic of a Constitution came up. Out of that convention the Constitution was born and has served as the basis of the US Govt. ever since it's ratification
  • Louisiana Purchase

    America bought the Louisiana Territory from France for 15 million dollars. It doubled the size of the Us and gave them access to the Mississippi River.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Prohibited slavery in the former Louisiana Territory and admitted Missouri and a slave state and Maine as a free state
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Slave rebellion that occured in Virginia, killing many whites. Later in the South, laws were passed restricting the rights of free blacks.
  • Texas Independence

    Texas declared independence from Mexico and later on became the 28th state in the Union
  • Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo

    A treaty ending the war with the US and Mexico, in which Mexico ceded CAlifornia and New Mexico to the United States
  • Compromise of 1850

    Made California along with other states free and helped avoid a secession
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott appealed to the court that he was free. When his owner died he claimed that he was free since he had been living on free soil.
  • SC Secession

    South Carolina was the first state to declare it's secession and later on formed the confereracy.
  • Battle of Antietam

    This was the first major battle o the civil war. It took place on Union soil and was the bloodiest one day batte American history.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    The battle took place when Ulysses S.Grant and his army attempted to capture adn surround Vicksburg and all it's confederates. This ended on July 4th, when Pemberton surrendered his army.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The Battle of Gettysburg was fought in Gettysburg Pennsylvania between the Union and Confederacy during the Civil War. IT took place over the course of 3 days (July 1st through 3rd) and had the most casualties of the whole war
