    Intro
    The end of apartheid system in South Africa involved many events and people. It was a system of racial segregation that denied South Africans many rights in their own country. The system caused a lot of sufferings to South African civilians before its end in 1990’s. It only came to an end through a series of steps and events, which brought about formation of a government through which the people of South Africa enjoyed democracy in 1994.
  • August-Pretoria Meeting

    Again the government met with ANC in Pretoria. This led to a consensus to have many new issues addressed. It resulted into a Pretoria Minute. The minute comprised of suspending the armed struggle by ANC party and the military wing it had. This wing was called Umkhonto we Sizwe (Ellis, 2016). Another issue was to bring emergency that existed.

    1948-Formation

    In this year, apartheid was formalized. A framework that allowed whites to politically and economically dominate was established. Restriction of blacks from involvement in politics began.
  • 1974-Mahlabatini Declaration of Faith

    Harry Shwarz, head of the liberal-reformists met Gatsha to and sign a plan for creating peace among different races. This declaration stated that the situation in South Africa needed some economic and social concepts to be accepted and also a constitution to be developed for the country. It aimed at safeguarding people’s rights in the country.

    Meeting between Mandela and Niel Bernard

    This was the first meeting between the government of in South Africa and Mandela. Its aim was to create an understanding about any available common grounds for any intended peace talk. To ensure secrecy in any future discussions, Mandela was moved to Pollsmoor Prison.

    Kobie Coetsee Meets Mandela

    While Mandela was in hospital being treated after a prostate surgery, the minister met him. However, it is not clear what they discussed, whether it was about the system that caused suffering to South Africans or not. Up to this moment, political engagement began and the initial secret discussions began bearing some fruits.

    1989-Opposition Organizations Unbanned and Mandela Released

    Klerk in this year became the president and maximized on earlier secret negotiations that had been held with Mandela while in prison. This was a huge opportunity for liberation to occur.New president announced unbanning of the African National Congress (ANC) and other parties.

    1990-Negotiations

    May-Groote Schuur Meeting: South African government and ANC met at Groot Schuur. The meeting led to the Groote Schuur Minute. This was a commitment between the participants resolve the violence and intimidation that existed. They also resolved to eliminate blockage to any negotiations.
