Maine to Cuba to be brought ome In order to protect American citizens in danger from the fighting and also to protect American property. Then, on this day 260 men lost there life. *This is in my top five because It exploding was one of the worst events in the Spanish American War.

    The U.S. and Spain met in Paris to agree on a Treaty. At this meeting Spain freeed Cuba and turned over the islands of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the West Indies to the United States. Spain also sold the Phillippines to the U.S. for 20 million dollars. *This is in my top five because This treaty of Paris gave us new land, in which we still have today.

    -Cuba could not make treaties that might limit its independence or permit a foreignpower to control any part of its territory.
    -The United States reserved the right to intervene in Cuba

    -The Unoted States could buy or lease land on the island for naval stations and refueling stations.

    The Meat Inspection Act was passed after President Theodore Roosevelt read "The Jungle" By Upton Sinclair. In this book Sinclair described the disgusting working and packaging conditions of the meat packing industry. This Act dictated strict cleanliness requirements for meatpacking and also created the program of federal meat inspection that was in use until it was replaced by more strict regulations in 1990.

    -Woodrow Wilson
    The republican party was split between Taft, and Roosevelt
    and the Democratic Party was all for Woodrow Wilson. Woodrow Wilson won, because of the Republican party
    split.

    The Sedition and Espionage Acts were passed in order to keep everyone suppoting the war, If you were caught saying anyting against the war effort or for interfering with the war effort you could be fined up to $10,000, and sentenced to 20 years in jail. *This is in my top five because, some americans were outraged, because these acts interferred with Freedom of speech.

WWI killed about 323 thousand people from the U.S, and costed about 22 million for the U.S. alone. *This was in my top five because this war was the greatest war ever fought in this time period. It also stated that Germany pay War reparations. *This is in my top Five because This treaty blamed Germany for the war, and created new nations.

    19th Amendment Ratified
    Women can finally vote! This is 72 years after women had first convened and demanded the vote at the Seneca Falls convention in 1848. They were granted this as an overdue reward for the tremendous amount of support they put in the War effort.
    • This is in my top five because It was a huge deal that women finally get the right to vote.
