Jim Crow Law
The Jim Crow laws were made mainly to separate black and white people in the united states. Many states in the north did not like the jim crow laws there for they never had black codes but in the south it was a very popular thing. -
Civil Disobediance
A hispanic got put in jail for on day because he refused to pay his toll tax for not being ok with slavary. The man was named Thoreau he was very rebellious when it came to slavary. -
sharecropping/ Tenant farming
Once the slaves were free they were taken advantage of by people because many slaves wanted to have there own lands so when they were given the land and everything it was hard because the had so much that they had to do to just get by. Some African Americans thought it was worse then know than when they were really slaves -
13th amendment
slavery ended and it was no longer allowed in the united states and it was not excepted when people thought that it was still allowed and ok. -
Black codes
Black codes were things that separated the white and the blacks. Black people couldn't vote, they could get arrested for not having a job and then get a job and work with no pay, they couldn't join the military,couldn't drink, and they could not carry any type of weapon on them. -
14 amendment
everyone was considered equal no matter the race -
plessy v ferguson
The vote was from 7 to 1 and it was to " separate but equal.'' This made it to where most of the blacks and whites had to be separated when it came to public things. -
15th amendment
This amendement allowed African Americans to vote which was a very big deal especially that there votes were very important. -
Lynching
Many black people were lynched simply just because they were black so many people thought that it was ok just to kill someone. The African Americans could be just accused of something and they got killed and most of the time they were innocent. -
brown vs fergunson
Kids did not want to be going to school with blacks. Many people thought that it was a terrible idea to mix white and blacks in school and a lot of people wanted to take out there kids so they would not be going to school with them. -
19th amendment
This amendment allowed women to vote finally. Women finally had a big part in this world but usually they were not considered very important. -
20th amendment
thsi amendment allows people to vote for office. -
Federal Housing Authority
It was a loan where you could build your own home. It was created for people to make things like there dreams to come true -
Rosa Parks
The pioneer of the Civil Rights Movement. She was considered the first lady of civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement". She didn't give her seat up to a white person on a bus and was arrested. -
Thurgood Marshall
He studied a lot at Harvard University and was appointed to the supreme court on October 2nd, 1967.He was the Court's 96th justice and its first African-American justice. -
Desegregation
Most people thought that putting a black kid into a white school would not allow them to have the equal protection they were promised. Segration violated the constitutional right under equal protection under the law. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
Rosa Parks was arrested because she would not give up her seat to a white person on a bus. They helped her and started the boycott around her -
Orville Faubus
He did not want any blacks kids entering his all white school so he got the national guard to make sure they did not enter into the high school. A lot of the students were not wanting to go to school with black kids. -
Civil Right Act of 1957
It was a voting right bill that was a great. It was one of the first civil rights legation by the united states congress -
Sit-Ins
Black people would go somewhere and just sit. They would not do anything that would be bad but they would take up plenty of space. -
Affirmative Action
You could not be upset because you are working with a certain person with age, religion,sex, race, and national origin. Even though many people care about stuff like this it really shouldn't matter cause we are all human beings and we are all equal. -
Betty Friedan
She was a big part of the women's movement. She wanted women to go out of their normal roles and be themselves so they could find who they truly were as a human being. -
Martin Luther King Jr
He wanted everyone to have the same rights and everyone to be equal. Before he could ever see what he did in this world he was killed. He was a very important part of history and he was a big part of black peoples lives. -
24th amendment
Everyone didn't have to pay to vote anymore and they didn't have to pay very much anymore compared to what they use to. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
This act ended segration in public and did not allow people to be judged on age,sex,race,religion, and national origin. The act was one of the most important in the history. -
Nonviolent Protest
Martin Luther King Jr. made the march and lead many hundreds of people on the protest. many people thought that black lives mattered just as much as white lives did. -
Head start
It is where familys with really low income can put there children so they can have a education even if their isnt alot of money involved. -
Veteran Rights Act of 1965
It made it to where people had to let African Americans vote, so the 15th amendment was really important to this. This made it to where we had to overcome on all the legal barriers people were throwing at us. -
Lester Madox
He refused to serve black people in his restaurant at the counter. The counter was for white people only in his mind but that was no longer allowed so he lost about $200,000 from not serving black people at the counter. -
George Wallace
He ran for president as the democrat. He created the american independence party. -
Cesar Chavez
He was arrested for being against Boycott.He fought in world war 2. He also lead 1,000 people on a march that was for making farms better then they were already. -
26th amendment
The 26th amendment allows everyone the age 18 and older to vote. Which also makes 18 the age of becoming a adult. -
Title IX (9)
This banned people from thinking that boys and girls could not go to school together. It was not allowed to think anymore if you wanted your kid to go to a place where only one sex goes or you can put them into a school where it really didn't matter. -
Hector P Garcia
He was a very big believer in the Hispanic-American rights during the Chicano movement. He was the first mexican-american to be on the US citizen civil rights and he also was awarded the Medal of Freedom. -

This is allowing people to get into precollege so it wont cost as much
